I've changed my mind, I now love this manga after reading the part where
SPOILER: Show
Shinji has his reunion with his emotional blackhole of a father.
On the one hand, I felt pity for him. On the other, I laughed my ass off.

The first volume can be pre-ordered at thingsfromanotherworld.com

This site also sells the Eva manga, the Shinji Ikari Raising Project, and a few figures if they're in stock.

This manga has to be an elaborate joke of some kind. Either that or there really are too many Eva spinoffs.

I find it amusing a couple of pages back this was accused of being a Yu Yu Hakusho ripoff. Apparently that guy never saw Mazinger Z. Or Kotetsu Jeeg. Or Getter Robo. Or ANY super robot series set before evangelion. Biological mecha are nothing new, nor are mecha going berzerk and ending humanity. Whiny pilots having breakdowns after they inadvertently kill someone was done by Gundam in the 70's. Evangelion is more or less a new take on just about every concept that was run into the ground before it, claiming otherwise is ignorance.
I mustn't run away, who the hell do you think I am?!?

Just a tidbit for those curious regarding Rei (Yui too) and Kaworu:

Volume 4  SPOILER: Show
Rei is mentioned as being a "copy" of Yui Ikari. I'm not sure about Lilith and Rei having to do anything with each other, although (if I'm reading correctly), "Lilith" is the name given to the world tree's system.... who happens to be Yui. O_o Perhaps there's still a Lilith and Rei connection though.

Kaworu near the middle of the volume identifies himself as being "the 17th Angel Tabris" to Shinji, though I'm not sure if "Adam" is mentioned anywhere.

So for the :google: savvy people out there, Chapter 20 (about the middle of Volume 4) was translated by Turtle Paradise. Considering the fact that Dark Horse is going to release the manga starting in the summer though, that's probably the last translation by them (I'd assume).

EDIT: It IS still in the "current releases" section...maybe they are going to try to finish the last 3 chapters then.

Just wanted to pass this on for anybody else who's been following the series.

It's a different aproache at any rate.

I read a scanlated version of the first volume a little while ago and I quite liked it. Kaworu and Shinji becoming friends is awesome, the setting and storyline is good and from what I've read in this thread the plot seems to be heading in a very satisfactory direction. Also, the childrens' clothing is very stylish =3

It's a shame the ISRP manga didn't try to make Shinji and Kaworu friends, or add a bit of mystery to Rei and Asuka's personalities... but it is how it is, hopefully future Eva spin-off manga/materials can learn from Campus Apocalypse's success.

Speaking of the English translation, Dark Horse Manga states the first volume will be out in early September. I think it's being translated by the same team that did ISRP, if so, I'm looking forward to reading the editors' section!

I really like this manga. It's kind of refreshing in a strange way.

Just popping into say Volume 4 has been fully translated/scanlated (yep, the series is complete!) by Turtle Paradise. Decide for yourself whether the ending sucks or not.

All right, Dark Horse's Jeremiah Jefferson posts up the news for their version, plus a sampler:

I had a dream last night that I found this in a store, and it was as thick as War and Peace and I was all like "Awww yeah!"

...I haven't even been all that interested in it. But it's Eva and has better art than Angelic Days so I'll probably pick up a copy anyway.

With DHM's translation of Volume 01 only a fortnight away, they have now have a page up for Volume 02 with an ETA currently set for December 29 2010.
IIRC, Campus Apocalypse is translated by the same team that works on SIRP, so I think we can expect DHM's English release to be of a fair quality.

For those of you that haven't seen the English cover for Campus Apocalypse, here are the covers for volumes 01 and 02 as they appear on Dark Horse Manga's website:

SPOILER: Show
ImageImage

Aside from the changed typefont which I think is nearing on awesome, the cover illustration is much the same. You'll notice on the second image that Studio Khara's name appears beside Gainax's; I think their name has been printed on all Official Eva manga released since the companys' establishment a couple of years ago, English releases are no exception. Also, the cover of Vol 2 is one of the best anything-featuring-Rei cover I've seen.

So... you'll hear from me again when I get my hands on Vol 01.

Review from ANN also out:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/neon-genesis-evangelion/campus-apocalypse/gn-1

The review's fine, but the Masked Windbag tries to hijack the feedback with agitprop.

I wish I could make a career taking someone else's work and making it into another genre. I have this great idea for The Big Lebowski, but as a space opera!
