The sound effect used when Adam's "wings" spread during Second Impact is very similar to the sounds (electromagnetic vibrations from planetary environments turned into sound) of the dark side of the Moon and Saturn released years later.

I believe this has been touched on in earlier threads. I've worked stints as a sound designer in the last few years studying music, in my experience it's not uncommon at all to take sounds from places for no other reason than that they sound cool, in fact that's basically the field of sound design summed up.
Certainly I think this particular sound is super cool (easily one of my favourites) and really captures the otherworldlyness of Adam (by extension the evas and angels), but beyond that I don't think there's much material in it for thematic discussion. Maybe it's a subtle nod to the existence of the FAR?

That does sound similar with that screechiness...

Uh~ that's such a cool sound!
Now I wonder, do I believe it sounds mega-spooky and otherworldly, because media conditioned me to feel that way by using this sound in otherworldly contexts? Or is it it the other way around?

It's a stock sound effect, dating back to at least 1990: https://soundideas.sourceaudio.com/#!de ... d=11474413

Which probably means it is available on sound collections for (professional audio) samplers, although it could also have been generated on a synthesizer on the spot by whoever did the sound effects. Maybe a General MIDI wind patch with the resonance turned up and some playing with the filter(s)...
Is there any information available on what gear was used to produce the Eva soundtrack?
