I have to wonder if Kaji ever straight up told her "I love you." The L Bomb is kind of a big thing in Eva.

The two of them are still on a last-name basis, so I doubt it.

Also, what was the name of the song that replaced Fly Me to the Moon during the end credits?

Re: Netflix English Dub Discussion
Lovers who remain on a last name/family name basis a pretty common trope. Given that they fucked like rabbits for an entire week and instantly feel tension when meeting again, I would argue that in this instance the name thing suggests an artificial barrier they’ve constructed, at once playful and tragic and yadda yadda hedgehogs dilemma.
Generally speaking someone has to be profoundly psychologically damaged to have that degree of physical intimacy and genuinely feel so detached from someone that they remain formal with them. Oxytocin is a hell of a drug.
They’re mentally fucked up people but not that fucked up. The tendency towards obsessive drive that they share conflicts with a genuine sense of detachment. The names they call each other most certainly don’t stem from professional detachment. Especially from Misato.

Re: Netflix English Dub Discussion
They're all from a set of arrangements Sagisu did of Rei I (or A-1). They can be found on the S2 Works boxset under the name A-13, and the five arrangements are designated as A-Type through E-Type. Two of them (B-Type and C-Type) were used in the show itself and were released on other soundtracks as "Crime of Innocence" and "Hostility Restrained" respectively. I don't remember off the top of my head exactly which ones were used in the credits, but they did vary which one was used by episode and it may well have been all of them.
EDIT: was looking at the wrong track when I typed in one of the titles. Oops! Now corrected.

Re: Netflix English Dub Discussion
Finally got around to watching the first Netflix dub episode yesterday. I wasn't pissed at Fly Me to the Moon getting replaced by some piece of piano score in the ending credits, believe it or not. I do believe that in Casey's version of Shinji that when Shinji argues with someone, particularly Gendo in the infamous "Get in the robot" scene, the yelling did have tiny nuances of Spike Spencer's rendition.

Wouldn't surprise me. The VAs probably watched Eva with the ADV dub so it's natural they'd be influenced by it. Some people pointed out McKeon seems to be reproducing some of Grant's mannerisms in her Asuka rendition.

Re: Netflix English Dub Discussion
So, I sat down with a friend and watched a couple episodes of the dub and the dub of the first two rebuild films. I really didn't enjoy the dub of rebuild in fact I think it's worse than the ADV TV dub and don't know how much of that is Greenfield's influence as a director with those actors. I just bring that up because funimation dubs are usually pretty garbage so there has to be a few different factors. The real problem is I don't enjoy either of these dubs very much and the arguments about which is better seems silly at this point. It's as if I'd rate all dubs on a scale of 1-10 and let's say a dub needs to be at least a 6 where I'd tell someone "Oh, check out the dub" or "You're not missing much if you go with the dub" I feel like we're going in circles arguing about a 2 and a 4. Before anyone just calls me a dub hater there's some dubs I enjoy more than the subs both old and new.

Is it fair to say that this is the more accurate adaptation of the script for us Americanese?

Re: Netflix English Dub Discussion
So just watched the EoE dub and i honestly found it somewhat disappointing, while the secondary characters were good some of the main ones were just not that good. Shinji and Asuka being the main ones. Shinji straight up sounds like a woman and it became so distracting hearing that kind of voice coming from a 14 boy. Asuka wasn't much better as she just sounded bitchy teen regardless of the emotions in the scene. Misato was better but she often felt flat in some scenes. Now this last one i'm not sure if it's due to the dub or netflix or the original but the audio was quite poor. The sound effects were nice and crisp but the voices were often so hard to make out as they were so low that even turning the volume up it was still barely audible.
Not the worst dub I've heard but given some of the quality of recent dubs, i was disappointed by what netflix did with the Eva dub.

Yeah, these things I miss from EoE are: "Gloop!" when Misato kills that solider. "I'm so fucked up" in the hospital scene and (this one is sorely missed) "SO FUCKING WHAT IF I"M NOT YOU?!" from Misato when she makes her last desperate plea to reach Shinji as she's dying.
Plus, Asuka's gratuitous German. I felt that Ms. Tiffany Great brought a special added layer to auks by adding those bits in.
And I know, all debates aside, that the ADV/Manga dub isn't the greatest, but it is kind of a classic.

Unironically this.
Still, it could be worse. This is the dub that happened because Khara was so hands on, right? Imagine if Netflix had the leeway to 'localize' it in whatever way they wanted.

Is Eva one of those anime where it's dub is cursed no matter who gets their hands on it?

It’s more that the original version is of very high quality, and that’s difficult to recreate, especially on the shoe string budget anime tends to receive. I hope one day Eva will be treated more like a valuable artwork and less like some random 90s cartoon... A man can dream, lol

Re: Netflix English Dub Discussion
Well, now that I've watched a bit more of the Netflix Dub and have gotten to understand it more (and also realized where to post things properly on here now so the topic doesn't derail. ), I can safely say while the voices actors/actresses aren't that great (in that they don't sound as recognizable as the ADV ones), the actual delivery of the dialogue and how it's written is good. It's a perfect, modern-day representation of the show and that's great. I'm just a little disappointed they didn't get the original actors (Spike Spencer, Tiffany Grant, etc.) to do the voices. Other than that, this the PERFECT PLACE to start for new Evangelion fans while also being a good place to watch the show again for original fans alike.
Well...except for Shinji x Kaworu, but that's my "TrueLoveHeart94" sort of obsession of that ship talking. It's still accurate in its dialogue obviously.
My next goal is to FINISH THE DAMN REBUILDS, god, I need to just get on that. Doesn't help I got Death Note on my plate now too.

Yeah, I change the things I'm interested in on a dime. Seriously, one day I'll be playing SMT, the next day it's VRChat, then it's just whatever I'm feeling like playing at that point. "Oh wow, you're uhhh...something that's for sure." -Anyone who meets me for the first time basically.

Re: Netflix English Dub Discussion
Huh. It seems Netflix has recently revised their subtitles a bit. Kaworu's "grace" line has been changed to "affection", although it remains "grace" in the scene at the end of the episode with Misato and Shinji, plus the dub remains unchanged. It doesn't seem they made any other changes (like the stuff Dan mentioned sending to them for corrections), which is disappointing.

What is their holdup? That's so bizarre. (I'm assuming changing that dub line is "gearing up" towards the UK bluray box release?)
