If you have a BD drive for you computer (if you don't it's like $15 these days) then you can easily add subtitles and audio on playback. Which is why having an HTPC instead of a stand-alone BD player or game console is infinitely more useful. You can build a great one for under $150 and it will play literally everything.

Though honestly, do most of you even need subtitles at this point? It's not like there's going to be new scenes or dialog.

Heck, occasionally I’ll watch an episode or 2 of Eva in its original language dub without subtitles stacking all over my screen. Anno and Team’s composition and framing is certainly something to be admired in that show, even in 4:3 aspect ratio.

I know how to merge things with a rip, but how do you do it with playing direct from the disk? How do you link the files to the playback so that you don't get timing problems and such?

Man, imagine suddenly new scenes would surface. This forum would implode.

I have a Mac computer, so internal BD drives and players were never a thing. I bought an external BD drive and bought MacGo Blu-ray Player (also available for Windows, though may not be necessary if you already have VLC) when it was on sale for about $35. (For whatever reason VLC, BDs, and Macs don’t wanna get along.) It operates a lot like VLC, including having a feature where you can select a subtitle file to play over certain disc titles. And since it’ll play over the title itself, the timing should be almost exactly the same as though it were playing over a rip. If it’s off by too much, it’ll allow you to offset the subs accordingly.

If the subtitles themselves aren’t on the screen for long enough, or are just in poor quality in general, I found AegiSubs to be an amazing free subtitle creator/editor. You can import an existing SRT or ASS file (or start your own from scratch) and adjust subtitle timing, content, colors, duration, location on screen, font, rotate them in 3-D space, and all sorts of other awesome and amazing things before exporting them as ASS files. (I’ve done this with the subs to both Death (True)2 and End of Eva. I’m looking at having to do it again for Perfect Blue.)

As I was saying in my previous post, my need for subtitles comes from showing the series to people for the first time. Seeing it for the first time remastered on Blu-Ray = great. Seeing EoE for the first time with no subtitles = making an already confusing situation even worse.

I don't know a thing about that. Is that something I have to actually put into my computer? I'm... not the most knowledgeable when it comes to that kind of thing. ._.

I doubt anyone remembers every dialogue in the show, they can have a general idea of what's being said but actually remembering everything word for word is almost impossible. If I'm going to buy something I'd like to be able to understand it completely whenever I want to watch it.

You can buy a Blu-Ray drive as a separate small box with a cable that plugs into a USB port on the computer; you may not even need a separate power supply. Whether you need any new software installed depends on what your system already has. (The BDs are region-free; but the DVDs, if you want them too, are not region-free but R2, so US users will require some way to get around this.)

It might cost a bit more than one to be mounted internally - but that requires a little knowledge (and certainty that space and internal connections are available).

That's a screenshot from the fansubs that I watched. It was full of stuff like that.

Oh, they churned out masterpiece after masterpiece; especially after Gurren Lagann including gems like "medaka box" "dantalian no shoka" and "hanamaru kindergarten".

Just kidding. Gainax remained pretty silent the past few years, maybe because all the talent it had ran away and founded their own respective studios (trigger, khara). Now and then they adapted something, but since Gurren Lagann and Panty & Stocking there were no new bold animation productions from them which made them so beloved in the 90s.

So yeah, until Blue Uru comes out they seem to be a hollow brand. I honestly ask myself; how do they stay afloat, now that now new Eva money is coming in due to Khara's acquisition of Eva?

O ok thanks lol, I knew they had made Gurren Lagann not too long ago. I've never heard of the other ones mention, probably bc their lackluster titles.

For some reason I really want to get this and hope to do so before 2016, you know, when Lilith/Rei comes to harness our souls. I must have a copy so I can watch EOE come New Year's!

Pretty hyped for seeing how they've gone about this remaster. Does it actually say remaster? Not sure we've actually heard it being called a remaster yet, or am I just imagining that?
