Wow, so that Manga guy I talked to at WAICON last year wasn't lying when he said 'maybe sometime in the future'.

I wonder if it won't suck.

It's a re-release of EoE. How can it suck? I doubt they'll make the drawing any worse. I hate how they transformed Ni-Chan to a Red, wingless harpy with a really weird head.

What do you think the chances are of getting some good extras on this release?

Depending on which animator was responsible, sometimes the head actually looks fairly normal. The rest of her just looks like a guy in a suit.

Takeshi Honda "Yeah, but, like, assraping the original Eva design meant that we could rotoscope everything from handicam footage of the boys beating the crap out of each other in the back lot with giant cardboard swords and stuff, and that made the animation better! (Plus, it gave me an excuse to engage Assistant Director Tsurumaki in brutal hand-to-hand combat. I won, BTW.)"
Reichu "That doesn't change the fact that you assraped the design! :throttles Honda-san:"

Because of this news, I feel both happy and pissed off at the same time.

Happy because Manga are actually going ahead with releasing the Renewal version of Death & Rebirth and End Of Evangelion.

But pissed off because, once again, there is yet ANOTHER version of Evangelion released and I have to pay more money for it.

Whatever. I assume they will be out next year since next year is the 10th anniversery of End Of Evangelion.
Spike Spiegel: Look at my eyes, Faye. One of them is a fake because I lost it in an accident. Since then, I've been seeing the past in one eye and the present in the other. So, I thought I could only see patches of reality, never the whole picture. I felt like I was watching a dream I could never wake up from. Before I knew it, the dream was over.

Longest anniversary ever. What the hell were they really celebrating back in 2003?

Come to think of it, I hope they are NOT releasing a Renewal "Death & Rebirth", because there is no such thing. There IS, however, "Death" (and EoE, of course).

By putting even less extras then they had on the original, of course.

Although considering the original, it would be fairly barebones if such a thing was to happen...

Oh boy what wonderful "extras" will they add in. I've never bothered to buy Death and Rebirth, maybe I should now. Yippe skippee extras that are sure to be AWL fanwanking her heart out.

What irks me is that, by this point in time, we should be watching Eva in some sort of high-definition format rather than buying it *again* on DVD.

Instead, we got two crappy hi-def formats, neither of which I think is going to make it (and rightly so).

Will I buy these? Maybe. But I think I'm going to sell my current Manga DVDs right now while there's still a market for them.

I've said for a while the next Evangelion DVDs I purchase will be the super-expensive high definition set that'll inevitably come out somewhere in the world. Hopefully the quality will even be stepped up from Renewal, which itself looks quite amazing.

Figures they would announce this just a couple of months after I imported them from Japan.

Hey, at least it's better than me. I shelled out $32 including shipping for the current D&R/EoE 2-Pack from Manga. Looks like I'll be shelling out again for the revival version of EoE, because the image quality on the disc I have sucks.
