No, it was the immediate two blocks that followed that really put me off, although the change in frames did not help. Mirrodin and Kamigawa had some of the worst game balance choices I have ever seen. "Indestructable?" Who's bright idea was that?! It got better after, and I loved Coldsnap, but those blocks just sucked for players.
Actually, if I want to bitch about the frames, I might as well add that their artists need to take a step back and look at their artwork. Almost ever card looks the same now, and I really hate to see the same overdone fantasy geometry everywhere, on the lands, on the monsters, on the spells... the stuff almost looks like a darker version of FFX's art now. *sigh*

What about Modular? It basically builds your deck for you. Where is the fun in that? Where is the skill in that?
What about equipment? It usurps the position enchant creatures had from the games conception, but they do it better because they don't die when the creature dies. Oh, and they can be put into any deck because artifacts are colorless.
I like artifacts too, but remember that because they can be put into any deck regardless of color, they are inherently more powerful then other cards. Any set that uses them as extensively as that needs major effort put into it to make sure that they don't break the game. About the only sets that I can see making more powerful cards on purpose is sets like Apocalypse where you are trying to encourage enemy color pair decks that otherwise don't work on principal. They seemed to think that artifacts deserved the same treatment, when in fact they are too good at what they do.

I forgot to mention equipment! Equipment IS awesome!
I didn't think Mirrodin broke the game at all. Was there a bit of imbalance? Sure. There is with every block. This block tipped the favor to artifacts... which I happen to love. It's not like they were trying to hide the fact that it was going to be a powerful artifact block. In fact, I believe that was the entire point. The only other block I had as much fun in was the more recent Time Spiral. That was also a blast to play.

Time spiral is cool, sure, but I really have got to disagree that all sets are made to be imbalansed. In fact, the first set of every block is supposed to be able to stand alone like a base set. That means that no one color should dominate the game, or else its not interesting to play.
The only sets where there was a true imbalance was: (1) Torment where the black cards were not only stronger, but there were actually more of them as well. It was a kickass set, but it was balanced out immediately after with the very next set, (2) Judgement, which was counterbalanced towards green and white to keep overall play interesting for that block. Mirrodin didn't do that, it instead had all artifacts all the time or you are screwed as a player. That does not make for interesting and varied play, that just bores me.
(Admittedly, it is still a better set then Kamigawa, which even the designers admitted was a mistake. Mostly because people weren't interested in a pseudo-Japanese theme, but a concession is a concession.)

Just one suggestion for the self made magic card picture. Not to sound nitpicky or anything, but the first ability should read "target permanent becomes the color or colors of your choice" and the second one should not have the word "the" in front of "until". But otherwise the card is well made with accurate text font and symbols.
>Rhyno - Formless One is correct in stating that the Mirrodin block was imbalanced. As a casual set it was fine, but on the competitive level it was a complete nightmare that resulting in the banning of 10 cards due to people consistently running the same deck based on these cards. That being said, Indestructible is a rare keyword and is usually on very difficult to play cards. Equipments were created due to the inherent fact that Enchant Creature cards were risky to play due to your opponent being able to "2 for 1" you if they killed the enchanted creature. Modular is a generic ability that is outclassed by many others.
But ah, I digress.
