I know, that Atsuya Uki will be tangled with production for Tri for quite a while now. And while I really appreciate his efforts (also loved his designs for Tsuritama), I really want Cencoroll 2...

Other than that, it's nice to see Toei handles Digimon with dignity (in contrast to what ever happened with Sailor Moon Crystal... The trailer for Season 3 seems like they haven't learned from the mishaps that let the viewership dwindle from Millions to 4 digits in a span of a few Episodes. At least the new season will bring us the joy of a new Yakushimaru Etsuko song. I'm starving, since her last musical output has been for Space Dandy in 2014, if you don't count one outing with Soutaiseiriron and some other minor artsy stuff).

I really enjoyed how organic the movie felt, and for a TV series it would look fine, though I wish the character animation had received the same amount of care the Monster battles did. Also, CG looks great and really shows, how far the industry has come since season one. I also really like the updated digivolves and how... ethereal they feel. Eagerly awaiting movie #2.

I'm actually really enjoying it, making it another utter surprise for going on this journey. To my shock, a lot of the comedy works for me, and the dramatic shifts, while wonky at first, got better and better as time went on. It really feels great to know that Yamaga is actually really good with TV direction (expect for whatever he did on THIS UGLY YET BEAUTIFUL WORLD).

I recently finished the sequel OVAs of Suisei no Gargantia that were on my "to watch" list for a long time.

The experience was quite disappointing, not so much for what it was but for what it could have been. Apparently they had plans for a second season but for some reason they couldn't do it, so the whole thing was condensed in two OVAs, and it really shows. They are quite rushed, but the plot in them shows a lot of potential and would probably lead to something better than the first season if it was fully realized. I feel like the ending would be amazing if they had the time to develop the new character further, unfortunately she just doesn't get enough screen time to make you care for her. They also managed to squeeze some fanservice in there, I guess in the end that's what these OVAs were for, giving the fans of the series one more taste of Gargantia.

All that being said, it was still quite a treat to revisit the amazing setting of the show, it's just a shame it had to be so short.

I just watched the second Gundam Thunderbolt ep. I found it much more gripping than the first.

what's up with Gundam lately turning crippled people into Mobile Suits?

The episode was pretty good. Mika's savagery felt like watching a lion rip apart a gazelle on discorvery channel.

Wouldn't be suprised more kids from Tekkadan will die. I can't see them warp it all up in 2 episodes with a happy end like that.

It's easy enough. All we need is a battle between McGillis and Ein on one side and Mika and the rest on the other, coupled with some big speech at Edmonton. But the real question is: Will Kudelia and the rest of the adults save these kids, or not? I liked the fact that this ep acknowledged that Mika's behavior was really freaking disturbing. And not just him, but Tekkadan in general. Seeing how that plays out looks to be more interesting than a simple mobile suit battle could ever hope to be.

If there isn't going to be a second season, I could see a Zetaesque slaughterfest unfolding before us.

Animeigo is running a Riding Bean Kickstarter and having never seen it before, wanted to see what the fuss was all about.

Enjoyable, but I'd rather back Gunsmith Cats, although ADV has the rights.

ANIME GA UTSUKUSHII *uguuu*

Postby robersora » Wed Mar 16, 2016 4:34 am

A Letter to Momo is a fantastic movie, with breathtaking animation, especially in terms of character acting. I highly recommend it to anybody who likes stuff like Dennou Coil (which finally gets a dubbed release!!) or Spirited Away or Only Yesterday. If they just had taken the tearjerking down one notch this would have ended up a masterpiece.

I've watched the extremely beautiful, which sadly only consists of a prologue, Five Star Stories. I cannot remember a whole lot of of it, but it looks incredible and I'd love to see more of it in some form. When I thought of beautiful but uncompleted works, I immediately thought of Clamp's
X/1999
.
This might have been one of the most beautiful movies I've ever witnessed. I highly recommend it for anybody who is familiar with the story of X (maybe read the Manga first). Really, really beautiful.
Rintaro was the director of this, he also directed Galaxy Express 999 which I always wanted to watch since I've seen the dazzling Night on the Galactic Railroad. While it is not the most beautiful of movies, it has certainly aged well, and I really like the fairy tale aesthetic. It's definitely a nice entry point into the Leiji verse.

Giant Robo seems to be pretty beloved, but I can't overcome it's ugliness... If I manage to overlook the hideous designs, though, it just seems like campy robot fun (which I'm not a fan of), so if anybody knows, if it gets more than that, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Gundam Thunderbolt on the other hand, remains extraordinarily beautifully presented - which remains it's saving grace. I've really come to dislike Gundam just as much as I dislike Macross. Delta seems to become an even bigger catastrophe than Frontier.
Koyomimonogatari remains the good kind of fan service.

Other than that, I still plan on watching Konosuba (since the start has been hysterical), the last season of DRRR and maybe Grimgar (depends on how hard it tries to fall onto the not shitty category. The art is just to beautiful... I've dropped ERASED after I read about the stark dip in quality. The presentation was ok, but I could still not handle the ugly character designs and hideous plot. The Rakugo Show reminds me a lot of The House of Five Leaves. I appreciate it in trying to evoke the impeccable mood of Mushi-shi. And it's certainly interesting. But it kind of bores me to death. Let's see, if I'll pick it up once again.

Nice of you to mention it; the Internet in general is maintaining a deafening silence about this series, which is a slight surprise - though I admit the shorts aren't, by their nature, as gripping as the arcs of several episodes. But to my mind, given that difference, they keep up the standard nicely.

Have you watched Giovanni's Island, which also riffs off this?

Koyomimonogatari has been surprisingly hit-or-miss for me so far, compared to Monogatari's usual consistency. Many of its 11-minute episodes have left me more confused than anything else, though there have been a few great ones, like Torus last week.

I guess, they are easier to follow when watched when memory of that particular month is still fresh. Something I also find pretty interesting is the wildly inconsistent quality of surrealistic cinematography. The Nadeko Episode was particularily boring to watch (might mesh well with her character at that point though, and gives a little bit more insight in her drastic shift in character), while the Tsukihi one was particularly beautiful. And more Ougi is also always appreciated.

I enjoyed the Nadeko episode pretty much entirely due to the massive flood of popcorn.

From Wikipedia:
The story and characters of Giovanni's Island have a deep connection to the book [Night on the Galactic Railroad], referencing it several times to the point where characters are playing scenes of their counterparts in Miyazawa's story. The protagonist's names, Junpei and Kanta, originate from "Giovanni" and "Campanella" respectively.

The characters are also shown to have the book and refer to it.

Interesting. Apparently Night on the Galactic Railroad has been a big influence for Ikuhara's Penguindrum, and some say the former is crucial for understanding the latter; though honestly I couldn't figure out more or get more out of Penguin after watching Railroad. Then again, Penguindrum is pretty self explanatory the second time round. For all it's bizarro surrealistic insanity, once you've figured out the themes, metaphors and where it'll be going, it becomes surprisingly straight forward.

It was the link to Penguindrum that sent me to Night on the Galactic Railroad in the first place. ^_^

Nothing really specific - just the idea of redemption and the like.

I went to see that Psycho Pass movie in the theater today. I'm glad I did, it was much nicer in dub than the sub version I saw online. It also was meant for the big screen, great production quality.

Fun film, action packed and political, just the way I like em. Also, very violent! Guts and gore everywhere!
