What does the S2 organ look like?

It can't possibly be the red glowing orb like object found on most angels because both Unit 01 and Unit 00 are shown to have this object as well. (You can see it on Unit 01 before it eats the angel) I believe that the red glowing core contains the Eva's (and angels) soul. If this is true, what exactly does the S2 organ look like?

Yes, all the evas and the angels (even if the core is not aparently shown) have a core. And is very possible that it contains the soul (if it has one).

The S2 organ probably looks like a helix thinghy, like the Lance of Longinus. The lance is a Super Solenoid (but it's not the S^2 organ of Adam) and it's shape is very familiar, if you know how a solenoid works and looks.
Here is an example:

Of course, we will never know how exactly is an S^2 engine in Evangelion, but i hope that in the manga somehow this could be shown

I always thought that Lance was in the shape of a double helix like DNA is.

if the super soleniod thing is correct, that would explain how the lance could break through an AT field...

I still think the white "face" of the Angels is the S2. It just kinda makes sense. That or its beneath the face. When Eva Unit 01 devours Zereul's S2, its only really shown eating the face, and perhaps the area under/around the face.

But, I digress. Its not in any of the artbooks, nor is it ever shown at any point.

Well it could be anywhere on Arael, it's just a big shining flying thing. As for Bardiel, would it have an S2? I had always assumed that it was along the same lines of Ireul, in that they weren't "conventional" angels and therefore didn't require the S2 in order to function like the other angels - they invaded a host and ran off of it, rather than operating by themselves...

The S2 organ is a complex piece of bio-mechanical wizardry...

... or "biozardry" as I call it.

I don't think Gainax's animation or storyboarding staff thought to draw the actual S2 organ being devoured by unit 01.

Perhaps in the Angels, the S2 is more of a physiological
thing than an actual organ. It's power source residing in the very
tissue of the angels...

...yeah  that'll work :?

The way I see it is...

"You put the you, in S2!"

catchy!

All in favor of forcing Kiel to watch 32 hours of Duel Masters say aye.

One thing that always confused me, though, was this one image in the Leliel episode. When Yui first makes herself known, we see her blotted-out face, and then we see Shinji with a little red orb in his hands. I had always assumed that this image represented Yui handing over the Angel's power to Shinji via the Eva, enabling him to destroy it and survive.

I don't know what to make of that anymore. I'll try not to care.

Okay, let's say the red core is the S2 engine. It's present in all the Angels and the Eva. It's inactive in the Evas because of the way the Evas were created. It has to be active in the Angels, or they'd sit there inert. Therefore, maybe Eva 01 didn't litterally ingest Zeruel's S2 engine, but the consumption of Angelic "matter" activated the red core within Eva 01, transforming it into a fully-fledged S2 engine.

That would also give us something that was done with the remains of the Angels who did not explode upon death. Their "matter" was processed to form the S2 engines in Eva 04 (which proved a disasterous experiment) and the S2 engines in the MP Evas.

Alright, so, then did the immense intrest surrounding the remains of the unexploded Angels stem from an understanding that the S2 was not the core, and that the S2 could still be extracted and used to create Evas with their own functional S2 engines?
