I don't think the story involves additional Big Boss clones, because I'm pretty sure that it has a 4 player co-op mode which uses multiple copies of Snake, much like how Halo has multiple Master Chiefs on co-op.

Anyway, the trailer looked pretty awesome. My one disappointment is that they're still using that clunky camera system, because I was really hoping they'd go back to the traditional over-the-head view from MGS1 and MGS2 since I think it'd work much better for a handheld game. Oh well, I survived it in the first PO game, and I'll surely survive it again.

I dont know, I'm sure it is for some coop play, but story wise it could have a reason.... clones of Big Boss are not something that would be totally out of the realm of the series especially with what went on in MGS4

It too bad that we have to wait another year for the game since I was hoping it will be release at the sametime as the PSP Go. I can't wait to see how the battle with Outer Heaven ends up.

@BattleMonkey: If memory serves, Big Boss never wanted to be cloned (the Patriots undertook Le Enfante Terribles while he was in a coma or something), so this would have to be one hell of a plot twist in order to be anything other than multiplayer. And it would probably be really lame, too.

They're probably supporting characters who are being kept anonymous for the time being.

It's a universe of super mission impossible masks... so who knows. Or they are android cyborg things! Bah who knows.

Of course Kojima likes to screw with peoples heads with his trailers, often the first trailers for his games feature stuff that never appears in the actual game.... as you expect.

Supporting characters who all look like costume swaps of Big Boss?

Trailer here, anyway. The snake tattoo is a nice touch. (Anyone who's played MGS3 better remember what it's a reference to.)

I mean that the other characters' models are replaced by models of Big Boss for typical Kojima trollan/secrets. Maybe.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/990/990448p1.html

Kojima talking about the next two games, apparently according to him he is NOT directing or designing MGS: Rising, hes merely producer on the project.

He says he is fully involved in Peace Walker on PSP though.

Recent comments in Famitsu article also had him sounding negative about Rising, I think perhaps Kojima was not really keen on the idea of the game, Konami must be putting pressure on making it.

Anyone play these?

What made these games so good was the usage of stealth tactics to defeat the enemies, rather than running straight at them and killing everyone in sight, like most other action games of the time were.

Another great aspect of it was the story. Not only was it cinematic, but it was also enthralling and suspenseful.

A long and boring movie, ruined by occasional videogame sequences.... especially the second one.

You can skip the cut-scenes, you know? I did it all the time.
The cut-scenes were ridiculously long.

The only game in the series that had actual stealth elements was Metal Gear Solid 3. The rest of the games only allowed you to run past bad guys for a couple of screens before forcing you into an obligatory boss fight every 10 minutes or so.

Sweet Jesus, this thread is an abominable Frankenstein of four threads on MGS rolled into one!

Anyway, I'm split between whether MGS3 or MGS2 is my favorite entry. Raiden never bothered me, but I have to admit on my first play through I hated MGS2 because it seemed like a tired re-tread of MGS1. Then again, I never found the ending confusing, in fact, it saved the entire game for me. Sure, it's talky and strange and there's twist after twist after twist, but that whole information deluge streaming at you without any sense of order or coherence is the perfect metaphor for what it is to be in the internet. Frankly, any subtlety would have completely missed the point.

But MGS3 is easily more fun, nicer looking and more consistently satisfying. It's still probably the only video game that can bring tears to my eyes. Now, I liked the scope of MGS2, but I like how it's toned down here and we only focus on Snake, the Boss, Eva and Ocelot and Volgin and the Cobras are reduced to 2-D comic book villains. It's what made the emotional core so worthwhile, the Boss's confession in that field of flowers is both visually and emotionally compelling, because it's all we got. If Kojima had made all the Cobras spell out their life stories like in MGS1, then it would NOT WORK. Also, I love the retro-feel and 'Snake Eater' is easily the most memorable game theme EVER.

However, as much as I loved MGS1 when I first played it, I don not think it's aged well. For one reason, and one reason only: the stupid three color key temperature puzzle at the end! It drags the game to a snails pace and almost manages to ruin the whole third act. Otherwise, still great; a real innovator.
"Now, from Nature we obtain abundant information about ourselves, and precious little about others. About the woman you clasp in your arms, can you say with certainty that she does not feign pleasure? About the woman you mistreat, are you quite sure that from abuse she does not derive some obscure and lascivious satisfaction? Let us confine ourselves to simple evidence: through thoughtfulness, gentleness, concern for the feelings of others we saddle our own pleasure with restrictions, and make this sacrifice to obtain a doubtful result." -The Divine Marquis
