Yo!!

I was wondering if any of you got PSP? What game are you playing now? What do you think is good? And...does anyone know any ways to make your Region 3 PSP can play a region 2 UMD?

Thanks!! And, I'm playing Metal Gear Ac!d, Dynasty Warriors, and Sengoku Cannon. Yeah, I'm new to the PSP business!

I have a psp, imported it from Japan 6 months before it was released locally.
I have Wipeout Pure, Metal gear acid, Ridge Racers, bleach hts 1 and 2, and lumines. wipeout pure and lumines are two games that you have to get if you have a psp. the other games are also very good, maybe with the exception of the bleach games. the first one is like an unfinished version of the 2nd one. still a fun little fighting game, if a bit simple.

I mostly use my psp for homebrew though. Doom, Quake, Quake 2, SNES, NES, Gameboy colour, Genesis, Megadrive, all that shiz. there is also a bunch of great fan made games and applications such as an internet radio client that works over wifi.

As for different umd regions, for games you can play them from anywhere, but movies this is not the case. you may be lucky as there are some movies with a universal region coding but if not there is currently no way to bypass it. if you have a big enough memory stick you can always format the movie from a dvd using software like www.pspvideo9.com.

I would like a PSP, but I don't have the money. If I did get one, I would get Lumines and rock that shit out all day.

Aw, too bad!! Well, I guess I'll see what the future brings!! Hopefully there'll be a way to make your PSP universal for movies too because those Japanese AV UMD is really killing me-in a good way-, they better find a way fast, or I'll sell mine and buy a new one in Japan! (So, anyone interested? Cheapest price you can find of course..)

Anybody know any good RPG for PSP? Is 'Legend Of Heroes' any good? Judging from the screenshot it looks pretty cool!

DS with 'Animal Crossing', GO!!! Final Fantasy III? I thought it was Final Fantasy IV! (With Cecil as a hero, right?)

FFIV-VI are being release for the GBA (FFIV:Advanced is already out in Japan and the US) They are basically just ports with slightly improved graphics and extra dungeons. I’ve played a ROM of FFIV:Advanced; it’s nothing to get too worked up about.

FFIII (as in, the original 8 bit Japanese FFIII) is being remade for the DS, this time with a better battle system and 3D graphics.

Make your PSP universal for movies?

1) Buy a memory stick.
2) Learn how to rip DVDs.
3) Stop paying extra money to buy useless discs with lower picture quality than DVD.

PSP discs are one of those things that I can't really understand the purpose of. Then again, the trend seems to be towards making customers pay for each time they want to view a film in a new context anyway...

Wait, what's the capacity of a PSP memory stick? I thought they were just 256MB usb drives. You'll have ahard time fitting a DVD rip onto one of those.

If I had such a device, I would run emulators on it.

Will 1 Giga be enough? 2 Giga is just too expensive!! And How big is a DVD rip? Some Megas? Or gigas?

Well, they got some old-school emulator running on PSP!! I myself got NeoGeo Emulator! So, anybody know if we can download other emulators?

Well, that depends. I don't own a PSP and am not sure what formats of video they can take. If it's like other Sony products I've used, my guess is that they use some fairly proprietary format that you will have to convert to from whatever you ripped your DVD to. So there's probably a guide from Sony giving a megabytes/minute rough estimate.

Also, I don't know if this is still true, but around this time last year there was a shortage of 2 gig Memory Sticks. My professor found a websitie purporting to have them in stock, ordered, and was sent two 1-gig Sticks. So watch out.

PSP can only support MPEG4 for video. Hopefully, my one giga will be enough!! How much is a 2 Giga anyway? Is it that popular there?

That's only half the story -- the other question is bitrate.

Actually, I suspect that, given their cost, the 2 Gb sticks aren't popular at all; there just aren't that many of them around to sell. Doesn't make sense to keep them in stock.

for the movies, i have a 1gb stick and that is plenty. you could fit two or three movies at good quality easy. for converting the dvds, use pspvideo9.
You can change the video quality to fit more on if you like. when i had a smaller stick i managed to get fight club down to 150mb but it looked like crap.

There are a few psp rpgs out but nothing that has really interested me yet. I just play ff6 and crono trigger on the snes emulator.

Thanks for the tips!!

Anyway, Do any of you know where can I download PSP emulators? I only got NeoGeoCD. Would really like more emulators on the system!!

And.., what's the homebrew PSP thing on the PSP Video9 site? Is it necessary to download that to use PSP Video9?

no, thats just some sort of program to organise homebrew on your computer. you don't need it to use the video conversion software.
The site i use for all my homebrew news and files is www.pspupdates.qj.net. it has all the emulators and any other homebrew software available for download there.
if you have any other questions about homebrew on the psp don't hesitate to ask, i can probably help with most things.
