For me, the middle of the series was rather week, filled with a "who are we gonna fight today?" feel. I feel like episodes 7, 10, 11, 13 and 14 could have been cut completely and would not have been missed.

The Andromeda Angel of Episode 13 is more important to the series than meets the eye.

If only Jet Alone wouldn't have been so lame...

I disagree on Ep 7 on basis it has great camerawork and other aspects in it - it is the script that drags it down. However that episode is very important in highlighting how ruthless and mysterious NERV can be

Ep 10 (worst ep of the show) is somewhat similar. Fight scene and numerous other bits in it are very well done and it is important from character development stand point. Thus it is uncuttable

Ep 11... well, no defense. It is quite weak. Still, I've witnessed many worse Monster of the Week type of episodes

Ep 13 is hard to say. It is certainly interesting and distinct ep with a lot interesting stuff going on. Hard to say...

Ep 14 is must though

Did they ever explain how Jet Alone would work as a weapon without an A.T field?

They never did. As a matter of fact, Shiro Tokita puts it down to "Research and Development", and nothing more.

I must be one of the few who really loved that ep. from day one. It has a great atmosphere about it, being set in darkness. It's also the first time when we really see Shinji questioning what he's doing and who the Angels are. It's also nice to have all the children together.

I think "Magma Diver" is the worst episode. But even that one had memorable moments.

I wasn't a huge fan of episode 7 but after we looked at it in the commentary I found it has some redeeming points. JA itself sucks, but it does well developing our understanding of NERV and the post 2I world.

Magma Diver... There was nothing in the episode that really influenced later episodes along the way

Ep 11 "Now we are even, Shinji", Ep 22 "You won't help me".

Yep it's during Asuka's mindrape rant about Shinji. The other shots are from 9 and 15.

I would like to think part of that's because of me. I've defended the episode since day one, even though it's probably my least favorite.

I liked MAGMADIVER it showed the characters in a different light and had a A/S moment when he jumped in to save her. I found JA quite annoying tbh.

I thought JA had it's merits for developing on the relationships between Ritsuko and Misato and Gendo and Ritsuko, namely how far they will go for there plans, and how much Misato is oblivious too. Over all, I thought it was cool, it's hard to pick out anyone thing and call it lame, when it's a part of so much awesome.

I agree, and that's why I like the episode. It has some memorable moments. But to be honest, you could take that episode out of the series, and it wouldn't hurt a damn thing.
