People collect all kinds of stuff, sure, but when what you collect is basically just fanart of your fantasy self? Yeah, that crosses over into creepy nutbar land.

I don't see anything wrong with actors being fans of the characters that they play; I would be more concerned if they were so cynical that wasn't the case.

Well she said someone had given the fan art to her. So didn't go out and buy it or anything.

NemZ probably meant to say "merchandise"...

Anybody else seen the image that the fanart is a shameless copy of? :hahaha:

Having a sense of empathy with the character is pretty much essential for making the role more than just the actor/actress going through the motions. When you start being a fan of your own character, however, you've crossed over a line into form of dissociative self-worship, and that way madness lies.

I must offer as a counter-example the outgoing Doctor Who, David Tennant. The show's producers had to ban him from attending fan conventions for fear he would fanboy so much that he would start giving away plotlines.

...are you seriously trying to use Dr. Who as a comparative measure of sanity? ^_^

An Evangelion fan had actually offered it to her if I remember correctly.

Nothing wrong with obsession with a character she voiced, I mean she did a stellar dubbing job as Asuka imo.

Yeah, she was far from bad as Asuka.

Hell, Spike Spencer, Tristan McAvery (Gendo), and her are the only three people that I think need to be kept for the Rebuild dub.

I think the only thing Asuka I own is a yo-yo that I saw at my local supermarket that was 50 cents that has a picture of her on the cardboard behind the actual yo-yo.
I don't care for Eva-elitists. I don't know everything, and neither do you.

I have a box full of medals from previous sporting stints (the tomboy years), under my bed. I am sure that one day, when I'm feeling nostalgic, I'll take out one of the medals and slowly lick it, softly calling it "my pretty baby", then slowly put it back.

Because I am an attention-seeker of the highest quality, I make a conscious effort not to construct shrines to myself. ^_~ I agree with the others in this thread who picked up a similar vibe. This is her defining role, after all.

Seeing as it's her most famous roles in one of the most popular anime series ever, sure I can understand her love for the character. Everywhere she goes it's the "VOICE OF Asuka!".... kinda defines a person when years of your career are about that one job.

Never did like her voice work for the character, just seemed to old sounding to me but whatever, if it makes her happy.
