Wow, what a lousy way to start. <snip>
actually, because it was so "lousy", it got me curious enough to stick with it and want to go back through the show

I think if I only saw the first few episodes, I would have written it off as "just another mecha" and stopped

I don't care for Eva-elitists. I don't know everything, and neither do you.

EoE, completely by accident. Gave me nightmares for days. Then I went and watched 1-26, and suddenly everything made sense and was no longer just a mangled brain-orgy.

First one I saw was episode 8 because my friend who got me into it was a big Asuka fan. Then I watched ep 25 and 26. Eventually I borrowed some tapes from my friend and watched up to episode 10 or something, before I finally got a box set of my own and finished the series.

From the beginning to the end in sequence, mix of dubbed and subbed VHS initially.

Actually, started watchng it once, could not understand all the excitement after a couple eps, put it aside and then went back and started at ep 1 and watched it through over a few days. Didn't quite get into it until Ep 15 or so.

There was a particular order I saw stuff on the series so I might as well post it here for reference's sake:

Way back in high school sometime:

Episode 5 dub (on VHS) and a short scene (fansubbed) of Asuka fighting the JSSDF, I couldn't get into episode 5 because I didn't know what the plot was so I held off on watching the series for some time. (Plus I heard things about Anno being a dick and Mecha wasn't my thing.)

A few years later, in college (2005 or 06):

Raw Japanese DC22' mindrape clip (I was googling for stuff on the series and stumbled across it, I think it subconsciously made me like Asuka/Shinji. The clip sauce was Evangelion.tv), Episode 03 on Adult Swim, the the rest of the series/flims either on Platinum volumes or Renewal fansubs.

After falling in love with the opening, I started watching from episode 1, this was back in, '08. I then watched all the episodes, then Death, EoE, Rebuild 1.0 and finally ReDeath, if it counts. xD

Episode 25', End of Evangelion, though I didn't realize what it was at the time until after I had seen the series, and came back to it. :headscratch:

Your first episode.

Episode 1.

____
I can only laugh at the thought when people see EoE before the actual series. They were MORE confused then those of us when viewing EoE who saw the series from the TV episodes.

I guess people who were around when the show started are the only ones lucky enough to have started with episode 1. Starting with EoE like I did? BIG MISTAKE.

Saw ep 1 first and worked my way through the series in order, culminating in punching the wall after the congratulations chorus of ep 26.

Got the Death and Rebirth DVDs (hindsight, waste of money), then saw episode 9 as my first, followed by 10, 11.

So I came in light-hearted.
We watched 'The Lion King' in my math class once. After it was over, the teacher passed out worksheets that said: "If the circle of life had a diamter of 46 inches..."

I first became aware of NGE in 1995 when pictures of Misato started appearing on ftp sites, so my first impression was that it was Japanese-style soft-core porn. Then, after my brother recommended it, I read some reviews and thought to myself, this is some really fucked up shit (i.e. a good match for my brother's usual tastes). It wasn't until several years later I took the plunge and bought the discs. Then I watched it the boring way: all the way through, then the DCs, then EOE.

Hrm. I just realized that I first read about NGE in May 1995, several months before it even aired, but didn't watch it until 12 years later.
