Fly me to The Moon 2007 Mix is a beautiful tune of heaven which gives me a sweet, warm feeling inside. Singing Is the crowning achievement of the civilization that the Lilin ever created.

Not my favorite song but I have to give a shout out to the "Aya London Beat Version" of Fly Me to the Moon from NGE OST 3. Dem beats 2 good.

At this point it seems like it's "Sakura Nagashi". It just fit so well with the imagery and mood at the end of Q. I can't wait to see how Utada Hikaru tops it for FINAL, assuming she's the one handling the theme for it.

"Yamashita" from 2.0 was also great.

And then there's, well, EoE's entire soundtrack, really.

I'm quite fond of "Borderline Case". It sums up the series quite well for me, and is delightfully creepy.

I actually have a few favs. Tamashi no Refrain, Kokoro yo Genshi ni Modore, and Sakura Nagashi are a few. For dramatic songs it would have to be Gods Gift, Fate, and Gods Message.....love em
Maybe if you shut up and stop over analyzing everything you just might get it........

A lot of what gives the A-4/Borderline Case tracks their power is the kinds of scenes that they usually are laid under, more often than not they are defining introspective character moments in the series.

Other than the A-4 tracks, I'd go with:

KST (if you don't like this song or that sequence, you should have your head checked)
The Anthem
Decisive Battle (even though it's a John Barry ripoff)
Marking Time, Waiting for Death
Escape to the Beginning
Separation Anxiety
Heady Feeling of Freedom/Good, or Don't Be

I'm not a terribly big fan of the new Rebuild scores because most of the choral pieces just seem a little too cheesy for me. The Anthem is the lone exception to the choral complaint, because the choral parts compliment the orchestra perfectly. Plus it sounds so fucking kickass.
Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

And so we arrive at demagogy. - Hideaki Anno, 1996

Evangelion music is leaps and bounds above pretty much all other anime music. I have heard exactly no song on any Evangelion soundtrack that I did not love.

Thanatos, and any version of it, are incredibly lovely, and are a couple of my favorites. Friends of mine who know nothing about the show or are even remotely into anime have listened to the music and thought it was some of the best stuff they've heard.

Erm....no. It's very very good, and among the best, but (except the classical pieces which do not really count) I would put up the stunning and varied musical soundtracks of Revolutionary Girl Utena/Shojou Kakumei Utena up against any and all of the Evangelion ones. From J.A. Seazer's twisted mind comes a fantastic although sometimes confusing torrent of apocalyptic themes and archaic medical and mystic ruminations put to some of the most varied and technically skilled musical compositions that have ever been matched to an anime. From baroque to cock-rock, SKU covers it all, and most epic-ly.

Were it not 3AM right now I'd get into details and post some linkies, but I think I should sleep. :|

This one and Yokan make me feel nostalgic, so I guess I can call them my favourites. And the whole Q soundtrack. Or Rebuild soundtrack in general.

It has got to be either:

Ode to Joy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kG16pfDZ3CM

Beethoven's 9th: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCjXHgM0kaM

The Wrath of God: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDoQLmlwkic

Do you love me?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMPRMKUQLM0

Granted that Ode to Joy and Beethoven's 9th are technically the same, still gotta love the styles. :)

Got to give the anime credit, they do know how to make and choose fine quality music. :D

FUUUUUUUUUCK this is a hard question

1.) Tsubasa wo Kudasai / give me wings (the EXACT version that plays in the film)
2.) Tout Est Perplexe
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6Gykk-qU_0
3.) Heisoku no kakudai
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLXEHDpeiTI
4.) Migawari no shinyu
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbWtkBjZICc

after that it gets even harder, probably in this order...
Tamashi no Refrain (i have zero memory of it playing in the series or movies, but people keep saying its in there so i count it)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBHaECF8-qk
"Sakura Nagashi" (the version in the film)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bYPk_kpYkk
gods gift
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYVGmgAlbbw
thantos (version that plays during Rei's death scene)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMDBRDUd0a4
Rei 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uw4zx9dGlx8
the beast 2 - version that plays in the original bardiel scene
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHRBFTWSguY
angel of doom (probably)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A73MiKM1wvg
beautiful world (the version in 2.0)

I actually don't have one favorite-- there are so many pieces of music that I like from the series. I'll have to look their names up, but I have at least one from every piece of Eva media.

Fate from Evangelion 2.0. If there's a song that can convey the wrath of an angry god descending upon you, this is the one. I can listen to it over and over again. All of the choral Angel tracks in Rebuild are great in their own way, but Fate is tops.

Betrayal from the Q sound track.

That or the God's Message from the same. The choral parts are fucking tight man, absolutely tremendous pieces. The only qualm with either is I feel like Shirou maybe was too constrained with time to properly develop what material he had and end them properly, I mean, what's there is awesome, but it's clearly not polished.

The piece that plays when Misato listens to Kaji's recorded message. I think it's called "those women longed for the touch of others' lips and thus invited their kisses." I know it's really just a different version of "Fly me to the Moon," but this one really gets to me. The strings part is just beautiful :boohoo:
