Maybe it's because he really doesn't get as much screentime/background as Toji?

I think because he wasn't selected as a Pilot. He was the only one in Shinji's trio that wasn't a pilot.

Well, he WAS important, maybe only for 5 minutes, but still, he was important.

I know one of the reasons I don't like him is because of his MISUNDERSTANDING with what pilots go through.

Whether or not he's aware of Toji's injuries in episode 19, it would have been nice if he was shown to find out about that, and maybe better understand that piloting Eva isn't some game.

Misato, for being a deeply flawed person but heroic to the bitter end.

I want to like Shinji best, but there are just too many moments where I feel like he needs a good smack upside his stupid head for that to really work.

I also rather like Maya but she doesn't get enough character depth to really say much about her. She's just your average nice person in a horrible place full of big meanies.

I'm too lazy to list the reasons why Rei is so awesome, but half of the reasons others cited for liking her generally agree with mine.

Those Seele people, particularly Keel, but that's probably just because there's not as much information to go on for the others... I'm sure those members are all as despicable.

But at least he wasn't like cold-heart Asuka.

A good soldier has a diamond heart for his enemies but a heart of soft wax for his friendlies.... I think this might be a reason why Shinji wouldn't attack Unit 03.

Anyways, I think Asuka was pretty cold-hearted towards then end of the TV series and during Instrumentality.

She also had a terrible ego that was factor in her later mental instability.

You guys probably know which character I dislike the most.

Maybe he wants to prove that he can do it too. Maybe he believes the problems with piloting are offset by the chance to pilot a giant robot-like thing and save the world. Maybe Kensuke isn't immature for misunderstanding the problems of Eva pilots, but is actually very mature for being able to look at the bigger picture; that sacrifices need to be made in order to protect humanity, and he's willing to make those sacrifices.

Heck, don't we all get annoyed when we Shinji whining about not wanting to pilot an Eva? He's been given the chance to SAVE THE WORLD, and he often just throws that away. Maybe Kensuke thinks that he can do a better job at such a great task.

Sorry, I just had to point out that SAVING THE WORLD comes with the price of having to experience the pain and suffering that angles inflict... not only the physical, but the mental too? SAVING THE WORLD or not, piloting an EVA is, to me, a herculean task.

Shinji may have whined, but he was eventually, forced/convinced into piloting it a few more times. I can sympathize with him to a certain point.

In the Rebuild 1.0, he only runs away once and doesn't vow never to pilot an EVA again, much to my satisfaction.

I'd say my least favorite is Ritsuko's mom! I mean, she freakin' killed Rei I, made out with Gendo IN FRONT OF HER OWN DAUGHTER, and send Yui into an Eva just so she'd be out of the way! And then she screws her daughter up as the Magi by choosing Gendo over her!

None of the other characters bother me as much as her. I mean, Keel's cool, Kaworu's cool, even Ritsuko's cool, but Dr. Agagi is just... :rei_hissyfit:
