The Brown Eye Syndrome & Other Theories

I've heard some grumbling about how some people think that Asuka has brown eyes at the end of EoE. Other's dispute this and claim that they are clearly blue.

I submit this for your approval.


Brown eyes or Blue?

They look gray to me. I think her eyes are blue, but here turned dark because of the red sun above them. Notice the collar on her suit is maroon instead of red. I don't think the color of her eyes really mean anything in terms of story and character.

Yes, it's really Asuka.

here Asuka's eyes is brown.I don't know why but i think sometimes and Shinji's eyes are brown and not blue.Or maybe is my idea?

i think its just the lighting...but you can tell that they are blue

That first image looks altered, I can see a texture smooth got applied to it, and some color got manipulated.

Yup. They're blue. Its obviously the moonlight hitting her eyes.

I was about to do the same thing. This theory annoys me and I've written long rants about it.

But yes, as you can see, her eye is blue still.

Well, the brown eye thing would hint more towards it being Misato.

And now that I closely look at that picture in the first post with her having a brown eye was definately adjusted.
The contrast was blown out and sharpened as well. The eye had a color layer applied.
I just attempted that and got similar results. </photoshop loser>

Ahh yes my mistake I thought that picture looked a little too crisp. Oh well, the second one they look a little grey and when the picture is resharpened they look brown so could swing either way I suppose.

Rei isn't dead, you can clearly see her at the end of movie floating above the ocean. Her body is dead but she has the spirit of lilith and I don't think lilith can ever really be destroyed. The same can be said about Adam and Kaoru.

Sorry about that :(. I'm not a fan of the Rei/Asuka/Misato theory but I was curious about the opinion on the now debunked photo.

I just found the picture on one of the billions of fan site picture archives and did a double take when I saw the eyes. It was 2 in the morning so it seemed like a fantastic idea to post it at the time. Now that I've gotten more than 3 hours of sleep I've discovered I should of probably compared it to my EoE dvd before posting it.

Pen Pen is G-d! lol The theory has a little backing to it. I kinda see Pen Pen as the character who sits back and watches everything happen with his interference and comforts people when necessary sometimes. Kinda sounds like G-d if you put it into perspective or someone's view of G-d. Bah, I'm just blabbering.

EOE is definitely one of the most detailed anime movies of all time. This detail may account for the misjudgment of the eye color. Asuka’s eyes are clearly blue, but they look kind of dark (or brownish) due to the lighting and the scenery. The Idea that Asuka is a combination of all three females (Asuka, Rei, and Misato) really doesn’t have much backing. The girl acts like Asuka, looks like Asuka, therefore she must be Asuka. The bandages on her arm account for the injuries she sustained form battling the MP evas. Asuka had the will and wish to come back to life, so it is no wonder she could imagine herself in her own heart and return to reality. Not to mention the last line of the movie sounds exactly like something Asuka would say.

The Commentary on the dvd went over this a little. (but it has been a long time since I watched EOE with the commentary…
