I demand that among all of the useless threads on Chit-chat, we have an useless thread about our favorite tunes in Evangelion.

In before loads of replies with Cruel Angel's Thesis/Komm Susser Tod/whatever.

Personally, I dig "She Said 'Don't make others suffer for your personal hatred"', I dunno why, I just like it, and it suits the episode it's played in pretty well.

S^2 is awesome because of the various edits to the pre-existing tracks. One of my personal favourites is a faster, slight alteration to Magmadiver. And an EoE intended/scrapped cover of Separation Anxiety.

I don't care for Eva-elitists. I don't know everything, and neither do you.

Air and Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, were both well placed in EoE. It gave me an impression that what I was seeing was just the tip of the iceberg. I guess Handel's Messiah was well placed too but I didn't get the same impression.

But best of all must be the Suite for solo Cello. It's a REALLY hard piece to play and Shinji seems to play the easiest 40 seconds of it. I've wondered before if Anno chose that piece so that Shinji would downplay Asuka telling him he was pretty good.

Shoot me. I love the cheesy elevator background music from the NERV dining hall and places like that.

I like the classical side of Evangelion, which I hope they keep for Rebuild. Nothing is better then Ode to Joy, Cannon in D, and of course Air on a G String.

My favorite EVA original would be "The Passage of Emptiness". Captures the essence of the movie and the emotions perfectly.

I'm not big on the music in Eva. But the classical and classically influenced tracks are good.

I'm still of the mind that stuff like Rammstein and NiN is more appropriate for Eva than some of the stuff Shiroh composed.

I like Normal Blood. It gets the ol' adrenaline going. Makes me feel like I can do anything. False Regeneration is good too.

The song, "Asuka Strikes"? the guitar twanging thing from the first appearance of Asuka?

I think Eva should steer clear of any kind of Rock music. It would make it even more cliched and boring. Scene's like Asuka's final battle in EOE found a really disturbing dissonance in the contrast between the action and the music that made the scene effective. Any kind of rock beat would totally undermine Asuka's overconfident downfall.

Though I do think they should avoid using classical music unless it has a particular purpose in the scene. Like the piano rendition of Joy of Man's desire. That song sucks horribly, but that pianist found a profound beauty in it, I say that just because it's nice to have an original soundtrack. Eva's original soundtrack was pretty good for the most part (I like my Eva live orchestra CDs). Though I must say, Raxephon had a better soundtrack.

Evangelion needs an epic score à la LotR and Narnia. Hans Zimmer should compose the score for ELAM (hell, even rebuild).
In my case, I refuse to go easy on the ignorant, regardless of degree. Hitler was ignorant. Joshua C. Whatshisface is ignorant. To me, they're in the same category of ignorant and stupid people who should have been left in some isolated corner of the world where they couldn't bother anyone. --The Eva Monkey

Or you could just default to Yoko Kanno and automatically get a super-amazing typically brilliant and appropriate soundtrack.

I'm gonna have to agree.

Grunge sucks, period. I don't care what you think NIN is, they sound like grunge, look like grunge, and taste like grunge. No.
