The original has always been, and will probably always be, my favorite.

Yeah, I gotta admit that every time I hear the original, it's like hearing something new. It really sets the mood for the show, as well.

Thanks to KnightmareX13, who mentioned this jazz version of Cruel Angel's Thesis in an earlier post in this thread, I discovered the Japanese jazz group called All That Jazz who made that arrangement, as well as arrangements of Soul's Refrain and Fly Me to the Moon.

Turns out, the same group just released an all-Evangelion-based jazz album called Ever Jazz a few days ago (10/3/2012). I got it as an MP3 album off Amazon and it's seriously awesome stuff.

There's a new version of Cruel Angel's Thesis that now has vocals added. Likewise, Soul's Refrain and Fly Me to the Moon are both vocal variants on their earlier instrumental arrangements. I still slightly prefer the instrumental versions, which keep the spotlight on the group's wonderful pianist. Those versions are from earlier albums called Anime That Jazz Evening (which may be their best overall) and Anime That Jazz Two. But Ever Jazz has its own pleasures: I never really expected to hear a jazz rendition of songs like Angel Attack or Rei I, but now I have and damn, it's good.

It's intriguing, I'll admit; but I see no reason to upstage the original.

[edit] I just realised there are two completely separate arrangements in that video, and the second is actually quite hauntingly beautiful.

There's no beating the original. Yoko Takahashi is a legend.

The original, Megumi Ogata's version, and the english version by geekyfandubs are my favorites.

Does anybody know what they're singing during that part of the song? I can't figure out what it is they're singing.

Did anyone get tired of Cruel Angel's Thesis?

Don't get me wrong, I liked the OP to Eva a lot but recently with differing musical tastes dominating my opinion as well as critiques of it sounding too pop for my taste interfere with me ever liking the song to a certain extent. I was wondering whether anyone experienced the same or is it just me?

I always fast-forward it. It's not that I don't like it at all, but yes, got sick of it at some point.
