Nobody loves Ritsuko
Something I have noticed, nobody seems to notice her too much and there isn't much rave going on around her.
She's kinda just there to flesh out Gendo some more.
Even in her key scene in EoE I couldn't help but feel super indifferent nonetheless.
The question is, was that pure intention on Anno's part?

She's there to be the obligatory scientist in the secret organization. When something doesn't go right it's her job to offer big sciencey reasons why. Also to offer an equal position relationship for Misato so she can have conversation scenes since Kaji doesn't show up till later, dies early, and is the love interest, Shinji's her subordinate, and Gendo's her senior.
Also pretty sure she's Tine's waifu, though that might be too strong a word.

I don't know about Anno, but Sadamoto designed her to be the sexy character. She's blonde, has a beauty mark, wears a top that has a prominent zip-down front, a black miniskirt, and dark leggings. You can throw a lab coat over all of that, but she still looks like she belongs in a club.
Regardless, it kind of backfired, I think we can all agree she's one of the least likeable characters in the show.
I recall Carl Horn also having a thing for her as well.

In her screentime we never see the personal and emotional aspects of her life so that is one reason alone why most people dont care about her....
For me i always thought her being in the shadow of Misato probably because Misato is a character tha tries to live her life carefree(despite having unresolved family and social issues)although i always thought Ritsuko could turn to an interesting character....

Ritsuko is just passive aggressive towards the Ikari men.
With gun scene in EoE Eva being the exception
then again I really don't like Ritsuko.

Aww... Ritsuko is great, she just suffers from making poor relationship choices and having to be the voice of reason in a show where miracle plot contrivances happen all the time.

I think she fully serves her purpose in terms of plot/constrasting/message/analysis of 21st century women. She's just not very likeable, but that doesn't equal her being the result of bad writing - it's the purely emotional/subjective Part she doesn't attract much. After all, she's fake and ultimately submissive in a stupid way. So while few people are particularly crazy about her in the sense that they find her hot or woobietastic, most of those who don't don't neccessarily want her removed from the show - Aoba and Hyuuga don't exactly have giant fanclubs, either.
I guess those who do like her find her compelling as someone who was "corrupted" (by Gendo) and proceeds to spread that corruption to others (Telling Maya to ignore her conscience etc)

In some way or another, I like all the characters in the series. They have traits that I like as well as traits that I can relate to as well as traits I don't like.
Of all the characters, Ritsuko and Shinji are the ones I can relate to the most mainly because at some point in my life, I was just like them. Even today I share more traits than I care to admit with Ritsuko. As a result, I can deeply sympathize with her as well as care about her character, even with as little as is presented in the series concerning her personal life.
Now, I can't say she is my favorite character, as I really don't have a favorite character in the series, but she is one that I can relate to more than most and I like her more than many other characters.

That's not corruption, that's pragmatism. Maya's plucky idealism is endearing but it's also extremely naive.
It also doesn't make much sense for her character, tbh. Why is she against an AI pilot but practically gushes about the idea that the Magi run the city government?

Probably because the Magi isn't in charge of a cyborg abomination that even the head of the Evangelion project does not understand and is frequently wrong about. I can see being unsettled about putting in an untested AI in control of a creature that has, on multiple occasions, acted in a manner that was "impossible."
