If Rei was a regular human being, being the key for the HIP would probably weigh heavily on her psyche. Does it really count if you don't have the emotions necessary to see it as a "horrible job"?

It is possible they just need to admit the help is needed(especially Asuka, I know it would be like pulling teeth.)

I don't think Nerv cares very much about the pilots mental state.

I think the resistance to help, especially in Asuka's case, would be a bit much for any normal psychologist to handle. Asuka's also really intelligent: she could probably see through most of the tricks that a psych would use to get her to confront her issues.

I don't think Nerv cares very much about the pilots mental state.

Seeing as Gendou and Fuyutsuki were throwing around brainwashing as a serious option in Rebuild, I would think so.

As for the question, how about the regular workers who were contracted to build Terminal Dogma? Were they told exactly what they were constructing and then sworn to secrecy / killed outright? Or were they simply told to work without asking questions?

Being Asuka's high school teacher given that she's already been through university and possibly knows more than the HS teacher would.

How is that a problem? A good teacher would use her knowledge as a resource to help the others and maybe teach her a thing or two about being a decent human being in the process.

I can't believe I haven't asked myself this yet, but: If Asuka is a university graduate, why is she even going to school in Tokyo-3? Apart from improving her knowledge of Kanji, which she herself admitted was lacking, there really isn't anything for her to learn from a middle school.

That contract you signed is life-binding. Hope you like Hakone. That or they get Shinji's option of "leaving," where they are watched 24/7 and can't do anything.

possible reasons:
(in universe)
1 - acculturation to Japanese language and cultural norms
2 - psychological support through relatively normal experiences for teens
3 - to keep her out of Misato and Kaji's hair while they work
4 - intelligence doesn't exempt her from needing common life experiences
5 - keeping the pilots together makes them easier to protect and monitor
(meta)
6 - if they didn't she wouldn't really fit in anywhere in many episodes
7 - settings familiar to the audience allow her otherness to shine
8 - merchandising opportunities for school uniform, swimsuit, bloomers, etc

I seriously wonder if there are any jobs that entail biological maintenance of the Eva's considering they are constantly in those restraints/armour. (aside from repairs).
But yes that would be horrible o.o

I just assume most of that "biological maintenance" is taken care of by the core's regenerative ability.

Hmm.. I could see that, it has been shown to have limited regenerative capabilities even with the requirement of an external power supply.

I'd hate to be the guy who had to go to sea strapped with the 1:1 Scale Eva Balloon Dummy.

Getting zapped by Ramiel doesn't look like fun!

brought that up in the commentary but no one seemed interested, but that would be a rather suicidal position to have

I'm guessing that boat was probably remote controlled, but I wouldn't be surprised at Nerv treating a soldier as disposable like that....

As someone who works in security I kinda feel for this guy:

Image
It's difficult in times like these; ideals, dreams and cherished hopes rise within us, only to be crushed by grim reality.
It's a wonder I haven't abandoned all my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical.
Yet I cling to them because I believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.
- Anne Frank (21 July 1944)
