But a) Asuka doesn't need them, so it's just an affectation (and out of character besides)

b) they're Mari's glasses (or copies thereof).

I don't mind glasses. I wear them myself, and stick with them over contacts because I look better with them than without (and because contacts are a pain in the ass to maintain). But people who don't need them shouldn't be wearing them.

You mean, 10% of the world population? I mean, it´s hard to find people that don´t use them these days (pretty much everybody old needs to use them, by the way).

Also, she could need glasses, many eye problems are just not developed enough in her age.

Wearing lenseless glasses for fashion should warrant being put in a stock for a day, but people are too soft nowadays so we can't do that.

Right, like they couldn't think of a psychologically charged object for Rei? What about Gendo's glasses?

They look neat though. Slap them on the Criterion boxset.
