So how do your friends relate to your Eva obsession, or even worse, your girlfriend!?

Mine gave up after Shinji went and jerked off :/
she hated it and got real disgusted. http://forum.evageeks.org/images/smiles/sperm.gif

Let be honest, if you're here, you probably have a beautiful, healthy obsession. It's alright <3

So wait, you're saying that your girlfriend sat and watch all the episodes and gave up one hour before the ultimate finale of the series, only because Shinji fapped?

They don't care or aren't even aware I'm watching chinese girls cartoons in my free time. Must hide power level at all costs policy and all, you know.

I watched the Rebuild movies with an old friend one time though and he liked it.

In Death and Rebirth she got really antsy and pissed because it switching from animation to text so much. I didn't really mind it, but it she just got really angry. The original ending bothered too, for partially the same reason, and she didn't take the time to understand. She more or less decided her opinion of shit after the scene, she did finish the movie and just got realy pissy and said she was done with Eva. I was a little insistent she try cause i thought it would be a cool thing to have in common

I have one friend in real life who watches Evangelion.

Luckily, I'm the one who got him into it. (Well, technically he watched some of it when he was 5, but of course, he didn't understand it and now all my talking about made him watch it because I made it sound cool)

Only problem I have is he insists on pronouncing it with the G like a J.

Me and friends?? lolololol

I don't have friends, but nearly every person who knows me is aware of my Eva "obsession" (if I can call it that way) because I just can't keep my mouth shut and have to tell everyone about it, heck, even my school teachers know about it. They don't mind it, and I even got one person to watch it (some nerd from school), he thought Rei was hot when I showed him the cover of volume 3 of the manga and started watching the TV series. He never talks to me anymore.

But some people (like my cousin) have to tell me to stfu when I start babbling about Eva, he still likes Eva, but not as much.

My grandpa told me to turn that Japanese cartoon down when I was watching End of Evangelion.

I can see why, since I was watching it in my room and he could hear it in the kitchen on the other side of the house.

My friends are not aware of my interest/obsession over Evangelion. I do not talk about it with them.

First Rule of Eva Fandom: Don't talk about Eva Fandom.

Jokes aside, my friends aren't aware how interested I am in it. I've mentioned off hand that it's my favorite anime of all time (of all time), but they don't know I visit here or anything.

At most they're aware that I watched 2.22 like every day for like 2 weeks straight or something last spring.

I keep telling my friends to keep watching the show, but after seeing 6-7 episodes, they gave up. I think I'm the only person in my community that is considered an EVA buff... shame. :dejected:

My friends don't really have an interest in anime, however my girlfriend did stand watching End of Evangelion with me, her biggest issue with the movie was the Shinji strangling scene not so much the masturbation scene. I haven't seen the rebuild with her but I plan to.

I watched Rebuild with one friend, he liked it, but said, he wanted to hear more about the characters, so i advised him to watch the series. But then he got his girlfriend and is in a relation-bubble since summer. (a.k.a no time for EVA)
Another friend really liked it too... But nobody else knows about my love for EVA.

They got kind of bored of me going on about it all the time after I'd first watched it. I persuaded two friends to watch it with me (though for unconnected reasons we didn't get past episode 17, annoyingly) and someone else watched it through on their own. None of them seemed as impressed as me (I'm sure my rambling didn't help matters) but seemed at least lukewarm towards it.
Other than that I eventually persuaded a friend online to watch it who now likes it almost as much as me. Which is good because before then I had no one to talk to about it.

I have no real life friends.

My sister and father watched End of Evangelion (i think my father didn't watch from the start and he didn't get past Air ) My sister (who watched it all) got a similar interpretation as that of Mr. Tines or NemZ. It is worth noting, however, that outside of episode 1 she hasn't watched the series.

Insisted to them to see it (promised them they were going to enjoy more the TV Ending) But no luck so far, now i'm trying with my sister's boyfriend.

Any real life friends I have from over the years I keep in touch with them via online, but even then I tend to hide my power levels from them (or don't openly bring it up unless something asks me something related to anime).

As an aside, I burned some Eva stuff (some NGE and NME) for my brother but who knows if he'll actually watch it or like it. -o-; We both watched anime growing up, he just hasn't seen Eva yet. I kind of get the feeling he'd prefer NME to NGE since the characters are more easier to relate to but we'll see. From what little my family saw of me watching 2.22 last year (raw because of the Japanese BD), they seemed mildly interested but mostly confused--and this was at the lighter first half (including the "fan service" scenes which confused them even more).

Most of my friends are fans as well, if perhaps not as emphatic as I am (or used to be, anyway).

Family: Never watched it, but are proud that I do something proactive with my time that I care about.

Friends: Some have watched it, but none share a strong passion for the fandom. From time to time I get asked specific questions about things (when's X movie coming out), but generally, it's not a topic of conversation.

Girlfriend: Watched it once or twice, liked it, but isn't much of a fan. She's fine with it and the time that goes into it. After all, I am doing very well being employed as a web developer, and I acquired those skills making fansites like Eva Monkey in the first place.

All in all, people are all pretty cool with what I do, and are glad I've had a small bit of success in the world as a result.

When I showed my friends the rebuid movie they thought it was pretty cool but I would not call them real fans of the show they just watched it casually we talked about it once then never talked about it again.

A couple of my close friends know what Evangelion "is", but they haven't had any desire to look into Evangelion as much as I have. In fact, there aren't that many people that I know of that are actually that interested in anime in general as well.

My family isn't simply interested in animation in general, with the exception of my younger Brother. He's about equal to me in the level of interest (I introduced him to it!). Although, he got into Evangelion mainly due to the "alien" designs of the angels. He's a conceptual creature designer, after all. :)

My friends don't know anything about Evangelion, as far as I know. Anime is something that's never really been discussed. I've never had a girlfriend, so I can't really comment there.

My family simply knows Eva as "just another show" I watch. I've given some consideration to trying to get one of my brothers into watching it so I could have someone in real life to talk to about it, but he's never really expressed any interest in watching any of the series I've watched (aside from Full Metal Alchemist and Brotherhood, which we both love) so I don't really want to force it on him.
