Misato as Shinji

So just as a personal note i never realized how much Misato is like Shinji (kinda sad for me to have just realized it but then again im terrible at noticing these things) ... at least wit the whole dad thing... makes me wonder what eva would be like if Misato was Shinji, as in her being the 14 year old pilot of an Eva and what not... Just a little thought i had lol lets see what u guys think about that idea (dont be too mean to me though =D)

I've always wanted a fanfic in which traumatized-teenage-post-2I Misato had to pilot an Eva, time skip to 2015 and she's the group commander for the other pilots. You have to wonder just where Misato's unusual cheerfulness stems from my money's on the beer and if she'd still have it...

I would figure she wouldn't Az. Almost everyone in Eva runs away from their problems in one way or another; Shinji and Gendo through doing nothing, Misato through beer and sex, and Asuka through her superiority complex and wanting to think that she is an adult. I can't really think of how or if Rei and Ritsuko do, but I think that one of the points in Eva is that everyone has a way of avoiding or running from their real issues unless just thrown in their face, and as we have seen they just breakdown once they are confronted by them- Asuka+Arael, Shinji+Lilliel(?)/Instrumentality, and etc.

My personal take on Misato's cheerfulness is that's an escape from her own feelings, and she has kept that act up so long it is being a second nature to her. Just like her drinking and frivolous relations with men. Part of the same facade to hide behind. She might have had that facade up since even before 2nd impact, trying to be strong to not make her mother worry.

Also, she had her mother to take care of her until she was 14? While I'm not saying she isn't nice and traumatized from the abandonment from her father, she doesn't have it nearly as bad as the pilots do. That made her a stronger (or less weak, if you want to put it that way) person to cope with all the 2nd impact stuff, and also the abandonment thing.

And part of it might be that she's just wired to be a cheerful person. Not everything in human psychology is created from our experiences. Some of it really is born with us, and varies from person to person. However, her catatonic year after 2nd impact is a bit mystery. And how she came out of that funk... none of it is really explained in the series, is it? Closest thing to it is a timeskip to college where she meets Ritsuko and Kaji.

I dunnoh... i think that Misato and Shinji beyond the every one cover up how they feel they both had something with their dads that they had problems with... i thought this was just like a ohh wow... they coulda been in opposite places and it woulda made an entirly new story

well, even if Misato was the one piloting, they wouldn't exactly be in opposite situations. i can't think of a way for Shinji to have her job if she's piloting at age 14.

but it would be interesting to read some kind of fanfic along the lines of Misato as a teenage Eva pilot. i wonder if there are any good ones out there like that?

I haven't read any FFs about Misato as a teenage Eva pilot, but there was that one Doujin where Misato had to grow 300 feet tall and battle an angel as "Misatogelion."

Misato replacing Shinji would be a hard, if not an impossible task; catatonic teenagers don't make good mecha pilots. Divorcing Misato from her preslut-and-beer condition is unsuccessful either. We don't now how Misato would've developed as a person if she hadn't became catatonic.

I'm not sure where the notion that Misato is a slut really comes from... Did she even have any boyfriends other than Kaji? There's clearly a lack of empirical evidence on that front. Sleep with one dude, get labeled a slut for life. Try to get the pants off of one teenage boy, get labeled a shotacon for life... Hey, wait a minute...

In ep 15, while spilling her guts to Kaji about lying to him while breaking up earlier:

"I'm a coward! I just use men when I need to."

... how far that statement goes or how seriously her self-hating is clouding her judgement is anyone's guess.

to see a tiny Misato as a pilot would be weird. i'm thinking maybe she'd be sort of like Asuka? but definitely without the arrogance. wanting attention, but in a different way than Shinji. Asuka and Misato seem to share that gung ho attitude of "i don't care if it doesn't work i have to try"

Not to mention that she later implies to Kaji that she hasn't banged anyone since she left him (!) - which, who knows, bedroom chatter, and Kaji seems to take it with a grain of salt.

yeah. she seemed to really love Kaji. which indicates to me that her dressing the way she does, and flirting and joking with people doesn't mean to her what it would mean to most girls. she doesn't really want to back that up and slut around with people. she cares about someone already. she just has issues that make her act out, and she's ashamed of that when she's faced with it in the later episodes.

Hmmm, I think there are a couple on FF.Net. But I also think one or two are M/S fics. There's one I believe where her and Ritsuko are kids piloting the Eva's and Naoko and Yui are alive. I can't recall the names, but I know I've at least seen them before for sure.

Heh a 14 year old Misato piloting an Eva? lol. It would be even cooler if Kaji were 14 years old. Then they could all partake in sex in the Eva...or maybe sex in the entry plug....or something like that! Wow that sounds like it could go in some fanfic or hentai plot....;)

The Misato/Shinji parallels are some of the most obvious in the series, but there are other combinations as well. Besides them losing their parents to SEELE/NERV experiments, if you buy into the whole Dr. Kat = Kaworu, then there's the Rei/Yui, Kaworu/Dr. Kat parallel as well.

It certainly would be an interesting idea, but let's think about this. If one has Misato switch places with Shinji then would that not mean that Shinji would trade places Misato? Jumping off of that, Asuka would be Kaji, Kaji would be Asuka, Rei would be Ritsuko, Ritsuko would be Rei, Dr. K would be Gendo, and Gendo would be dead. Shinji would probably go for the Project E position given his personality, Rei would be the Ops Directer, and I'm generally getting the sense that this would be rather interesting.

OK, so Legendary's already doing his own fic where Maya's in Shinji's position, and I'm doing that Peggy Sue/Slider thing where the Children and their parents do a role reversal, but considering that the casting for Eva revolves around the Power Trio I really think there's some real potential to mix-and-match the casting in fanfic. . . . Man, I really gotta set up a dedicated thread for posting plot bunnies on this board some time.
