It should a simultaneous screening on July 6th, and there are 16 hours between Los Angeles and Tokyo.

I think 6:00 Los Angels / 15:00 Paris / 21:00 Shanghai / 22:00 Tokyo would be a pretty god bet.

How does AX work tho? Is a screening at 6AM possible?

At Anime Expo, there's a showing of Eva 3.33 on Saturday at 6pm presented by the Evangelion store. If I had to guess, the preview would be attached to the end of that, however the does conflict with a possible simultaneous release, as Japan would be the next day already. I really hope we get more details soon because I'm centering my entire Anime Expo experience around this.

If the preview is kept exclusive to those attending these events, this would solve some issues of a simultaneous release. Fingers crossed.

EDIT it also confirms it's a simultaneous event, so it should be 4:15 AM for the fellow Eva fans from the US.

Here comes the fourth film, EVANGELION:3.0+1.0, to be released in 2020, and the fans of the saga will attend the premiere screening of a new extract at Japan Expo: EVANGELION:3.0+1.0 AVANT 1 (from beginning to 10:40) Version 0706, as it will be showed simultaneously in several countries.

Yoko TAKAHASHI, the singer of Zankoku no Tenshi no These, the opening theme of NEON GENESIS EVANGELION, will be attending this exceptional event on Saturday, July 6 on the Yuzu Stage, from 1.15 pm.

I'm a continuity fiend, so if I had to pick a AVANT1 script it would include Shinji having a dream which combines EvaTV, EoE, and Rebuilds into a slush of imagery while also revealing details from events we haven't seen that occur pre-3.0, post EoE. At the end, Shinji's tape player stops and reverses, and he wakes up staring at another strange ceiling.

AVANT2, bring on the sweet sweet action sequence!

I'm glad we're getting something from 3.0+1.0 before it releases. I do wonder though: Why is Midori the main focus for AVANT2? (If I read that correctly) Of all characters, why the pink haired one? She's done less than Mari has. Not that I'd think this will happen, but I really hope this doesn't mean that Misato is going to get shafted for screen time in final.

I assume it will be available on the Eva Extra app at least, likely posted afterwards but not livestreamed. With Khara likely seeing a huge boost in worldwide popularity of the brand due specifically to a streaming service (which would be why they're doing this worldwide premier instead of only having it in Japan), it would be completely baffling for Evangelion 0706 to not be available to watch online officially.

As for my predictions, they may disappoint you. It's stated that this will be the first 10 minutes before the title card. Evangelion 1.0 was a special case, since it adapted the initial Shinji/Rei arc of the Eva story. However, when 2.0 and 3.0 came out, and branched off, turning the story into it's own thing, there was a shift; the openings to both are disconnected from the main story, at least initially. 2.0 opens with Mari fighting the 3rd Angel, and she doesn't even reappear in the film until about halfway through. 3.0 opens with Units 02 and 08 bringing back a mysterious Space Box, but you don't actually learn that it was Unit 01, Shinji, and the SDAT in there until AFTER the title card.

So, unfortunately, it's likely that 3.0+1.0 will open with another non sequitur like this. I imagine it will show something completely unrelated to the main plot, but then slowly become more connected until the connection becomes blatantly obvious, just before the title card.

The most likely scenario in my mind, is that we open on the survivors of Third Impact in a part of the world far, far away from the epicenter of Tokyo-3. I imagine it would show a young child and old woman playing a game, likely Shogi to tie in with 3.0's Shogi scene, to pass the time. You see able-bodied adults in the background gathering materials or building shelters. The two have idle banter back and forth about various topics, eventually coming to have the child ask why the world is in the state it's in, as the child hadn't been born until after Third Impact, but has seen many pictures of the rebuilt world post Second Impact. The elder, a previous affiliate of Seele who defected and evacuated her close friends and family to their current home just before Third Impact went down, frowns, and explains exactly what happened at the end of 2.0, and the events that took place between 2.0 and 3.0. As she finishes her story, a loud roar slowly encompasses the land, as the two look up. The others cheer, as the old lady smiles, "The world we knew may be gone. But that, my child, is our hope." The title card appears.

Oh, we just know she speaks a line and is apparently present in that scene. Not how important she will be.

Though her actress was invited to that "start of recording" party in...february? So maybe she is more important in this film.

Well, think about it. How did the last movie end? With Asuka, Shinji, and Rei walking away from us into the horizon. What's the visual for the 3+1 movie poster? Asuka, Shinji, and Rei, still in the red wastes, with the perspective flipped -- they're walking TOWARD the camera instead of away from it. Furthermore, khara has released two short films giving us a glimpse at an extended sequence of these three in the wastes; it's been storyboarded and everything. It's been speculated that the sequence was originally intended for the end of Q, but it's probably a safe guess that it's been shifted to the start of Shin.

∆ I have reached such a level of fanboy that I can't be disappointed by Evangelion lol. I'll probably love it regardless of what we see.
Also very sure it features the three mains, which I'd love, there is such potential for beautiful scenery in the post 3d Impact world.

But this is good. We'll have an extended look at Tokyo-3 and the aftermath of Third Impact along with the opportunity for some juicy exposition. I see no problems here :3c.

Can anybody think of another big promotional khara thing that similarly was announced for some event and later uploaded to the internet?
I can only think of the Animator Expo, but that was always supposed to be on the internet (there were also cinema releases).

I fully respect khara making any choice they like as far as how all this stuff works and how it gets released.
However I think it would be better to let everybody see it the moment you let some people see it.

Discussing if and how spoilers affect enjoyment of something is an entire different subject. But for this film I really wanna go in without knowledge (apart from the stuff khara gives me).

You could say that when the actual film comes out it'll be the same (initial release in Japan leading to spoilers on the net), but I feel like most people will be more cautios there, since it's the entire film. But maybe with this people will think "Ah it's just the beginning" and talk about it openly anywhere.
And fully avoiding Eva on the internet...don't wanna do that. :/

And seeing how this film begins has always been one of the things I was most excited for (I thought I'd have to wait to press play whenever the BD comes out, or maybe I have to lol).

I also think the Eva-08 teaser with the 2020 reveal could have been more fun had everybody just gotten a notification out of the blue and seen it (I say could because in the case of a teaser it can be pretty cool to have that air of mystery with comments on the internet).

Well I guess we'll have to see.
Part of me thinks we'll see this since we always get something in july, or they are really secretive and it's for attendees' eyes only.
