I calls it like I sees it.
Detective Pikachu is gonna be an at best “fine movie” that will make 2 billion worldwide and will launch a a new never-ending Pokémon Cinematic Universe. A PCU.

As for JJ Abrams. His two best skills as a filmmaker are casting - he pretty uniformly casts interesting out there Actor choices that turn out to the best person for the role, I.E. The entire cast for Star Trek 2009 or Casting The then-relatively-unknown Adam Driver to play your lead villain is an inspired choice - and set up. From his time working on TV, Abrams is very good at ending a story with enough storylines and character goals set up that you want to continue the story. He’s got a very good “tune in next episode” sensibility.

Which is why probably the thing I’m most curious about Star Wars 9 is to see how Abrams handles what is supposed to be a definite conclusion.

This story is never going to be definitively concluded, unless Abrams ends the movie with the destruction of the whole universe or the death of all main characters. We all know that in 20 years or so, Disney is gonna start production on a fourth trilogy and bring back whatever main characters survive the events of this film. Or at the very least have spin-off films featuring Rey, Poe Dameron, Finn etc.

It is inevitable.

It is its destiny.

Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

Oh yeah, when I meant conclusion I didn’t mean an ending to all Star Wars.

The Galaxy Far, Far Away ain’t going nowhere and at some point there will definitely be a new trilogy with Episodes 10 through 12. Probably one where Rey, Poe Dameron, Finn and whoever else take on the mentor roles to the next, next generation.

But Epsiode 9 is said to definitely conclude the Skywalker story. Any future movies will have to do without any direct connection to the Skywalker bloodline. Or at least that what I’ve heard through the grapevine.

Didn’t they already announce a trilogy from the incompetent idiots who ruined Game of Thrones?

Ruined Game Of Thrones?

.... that’s a first....

Definitely do not agree with that statement.

The live action Akira film crew must complete the film in 180 days in order to receive the tax credit. At this point, I gladly would welcome any crappy product just to satisfy my Akira live action craving.

I know I always say don't pre judge a film until you've seen it blah blah but that's a giant "this is going to be shit" red flag.

The article actually says that the film must begin production within the next 180 days to earn the tax credit. It doesn't say it has to be completed.
But yeah, I mean...is there even a final cast for this thing? I mean, there have been so many people attached and jettisoned throughout the years that I don't even know who the hell's involved at this point, other than perhaps Taika Watiiti as a (maybe) director.

Also, in sort of related news:

Netflix has announced the main cast (save Edward) of the live action Cowboy Bebop series. John Cho has been cast as Spike.

This is one of those films I never wanted Hollywood to make just purely because I don't think they'll get the complexity of the post war world and the politics or the god complex. Or the changes between Kaneda and Tetsuo since one starts of as a selfish asshole but grows to be a hero risking everything while the other is a nice guy who is beaten down whose gods powers turn him in to an utter monster fixated on power, and lets not get started on the whole back history of the god child Akira and the other children on the program who were experimented on.

Like this has to have someone who really loves and deeply understands the source material on a very deep level but I think the first and second trailer drop will show if they've got it or have missed the point completely.

“I am the punishment of God...If you had not committed great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you.”

― Genghis Khan -Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic let off an EMP powerful enough to knock out electronics on the entire Pacific Northwest.

According to GoNorthwest, the area has a population of around 15 million. Bump Reveal estimates that 3,978,497 babies are born every year in the United States.

Using statistics from Bliss it is estimated that about 1 in 7 babies in the UK require a neonatal unit upon their birth. Assuming this statistic translates to the United States, this would mean that 568,365 need this treatment in the US yearly.

The United States has approximately 327.2m people living there, meaning that the Pacific Northwest holds approximately 4.5% of the US population, translating to 25,576 babies needing neonatal treatment in the area yearly.

Using Bliss's statistics again, it can be seen that the average stay in the neonatal clinic for a baby is one week. Considering there are 52 weeks in a year, this means that 1/52 of this figure are in the clinics at any one time.

This translates to 491 babies in the area where Sonic the Hedgehog immediately cuts complete power and life support to. Sonic is literally a mass baby murderer.

Is it just me or is it super awkward how that exchange between Eggman and that soldier is such a huge chunk of the trailer?
It goes on for forever.
Shinji: "Sooner or later I'll be betrayed... And they'll leave me. Still... I want to meet them again, because I believe my feelings at that time were real."
Ryuko: "I'm gonna knock ya on your asses!"
-Asuka: THINK IN GERMAN!!! -Shinji: Öh... Baumkuchen...
Hayashida: "As game developers, our work is special. All of us here can put smiles on very many people's faces with our work."

I'll go see Sonic just to watch Jim Carrey ham it up. He looks great as Robotnik.

They are re-designing Sonic and it makes me sad because it shows that these producers don’t stand for anything.
