Everyone forgets the movies.........where the manga ending DID happen but it cut out everything that came after L, aka: the bullshit
SPOILER: Show
(mostly because L lived in those)

Seriously the last name's ending is the one i always think of when death note is mentioned.

I still haven't seen Death Note except for the first few episodes, but I'm glad to hear that's how Light ends in the manga at least. (Didn't read everything that was written, but my eyes passed over the crying for his pathetic life part.) Never liked that guy or his philosophy.

seriously though why are those 3 movies ignored? they are actually really good..........so long as you don't watch the dub, the dub voice cast is amazing for the anime but the movie..........it feels really out of place.

Actually I really didn't like the deathnote movies though I'm not sure how contriversial this opinion is. It's kinda weird because I like the other stuff that director did so I was expecting to like them. But there was just a lot of changes they made in the movies that just came off feeling really forced and shoe horned into the storyline to me, especially how they made L win.

Wait, are you guys talking about the live action movie or an adaptation in OAV of the series?

I just watched the anime movies and aside from a few new scenes, I wished they could've changed the ending to have be done in Light's perspective and have him win.

If you're gonna do recap movies and have a twist at the end make sure it's well done like give us something like End of Evangelion or Rebellion level, nobody should have to spend for a movie that recaps a show they just watched.
"Winds in the east, Mist coming in, Like something is brewing, About to begin. Can't put my finger on, What lies in store, But, I feel what's to happen, All happened before..." From Mary Poppins
"For Love and Justice, I'm the pretty sailor suited soldier, Sailor Moon! In the name of the Moon, I will punish you!" Sailor Moon
"Anta Baka?!" Asuka Langley Soryu
"We fall in love, our hearts may break, we lose sleep longing for someone, but that's how we know we're alive." Usagi Tsukino from the Sailor Moon S movie.
"I'm not a nerd, I'm a specialist!!" Sousuke Sagara from Full Metal Panic.

Oh yeah, I really didn't like the recap movies, though I think that opinions even less contreversial then not liking the live action films. I think the only recap anime I liked was the second gurren lagann recap. I remember after I finished the rahxephon series I was like "oh boy , they have a movie too, this will probably be good...wait this all looks kinda familiar...dammit this is one of those movies..."

That would be impossible, since
SPOILER: Show
the moment Light secures total victory, meaning managing to erase any trace tying him to Kira and killing everyone who could oppose him, that would make the situation boring for Ryuk, who would them immediately kill Light because he won't want to wait for the decades that will take him to die.

And the author confirmed that interpretation, Light was screwed the second he picked up that notebook.

Light reigned the world for 5 years with Ryuk doing nothing. All he needs is some apples and play vidya with Misa.

Light still had to play as a member of the Kira Investigation Team and making the world believe that L was still alive, that forced him to continue masquerading during the time skip, which entertained Ryuuk, but had Light managed to kill all of the Kira Investigation Team and Near and its accomplices, then what I said would had happened.
In short, Ryuk was entertained as long as there was a chance for Light to be caught.

Considering Ryuk can't predict the future and his motivation was to watch Light's world that's a bunch of bunkum. My point - the author can munch on a bag of dicks for how hard he had to phone in the entire second half just to kill Light. The story could have perfectly ended with him winning and no one besides moralfags would have cried foul.

We have a thread for this.

Opinion: YuYuYu is far better than PMMM, because it didn't have the luxury of coasting on the Urobutcher and SHAFT reputations.

All further posting about Death Note / its ending goes in the Death Note thread linked above by Tines.

For some reason people continued after Tines's declaration above so I had to pull out the clippers. Surviving fragment:

I don't think so.

The rest are just stupid (though Bleach gets far more heat than it deserves).

I believe the less-than stellar reception for modern Bleach is pretty valid from my perspective.

Urobuchi only made his reputation big time with Madoka though. Saya no Uta had its admirers among niche of the niche market aka eroge fans and Fate/Zero novels were well received but he wasn't yet any sort of household name and his earlier attempts at writing anime were met at best lukewarmly. People expected DARK story from butcher but they didn't really have at large expectations along the lines of ZOMG BEST ANIME EVER. Shaft & Shinbo factor was mostly positive in aftermath of Bakemonogatari but even then it could be twoheaded sword and right before and immeaditly after Madoka Shaft were making anime that got unremarkable reception.

There was reasonable amount of hype owing to the overall team put together by the producer (including Shinbo and Urobuchi as key members of course but people were at least as hyped about Ume's character designs and Kajiura composing) and people were very curious about the "first original Shaft anime" but it was no drumup and 'inevitable' success that went with stuff like new Miyazaki feature or Gundam Unicorn which was pretty much guaranteed to be MASSIVE hit from the getgo.

So I don't think hype had much to do with PMMM's success. Urobutcher having name magic when attached to project has only been true afterwards - with mostly disappointing results.

Someone already said this but Monogatari seems to be one of the most pretentious shamelessly self indulgent series I had ever seen. I really hate how anti climatic the endings of each arc is and Nisio constantly trolls his audience. I can say the same for Medaka Box both the anime and manga.

Likewise FLCL has to be one of the most confusing anime despite it being largely straightforward. Just about anything by Tsukimaki(?) is a mind screw even when it isn't trying to be that includes TTGL, KLK and Diebuster.

Log Horizon seems kind of boring to me, .hack//sign is also boring as well as SAO.

Is that a bad thing though?

"Absolutely. The will to make oneself completely free. Will is the wrong word, because in the end you could call it despair. I've posted in this thread before, but there is actually another famous anime I really can't stand.
Elfen Lied
I understand that there are supposed to be some themes about human nature or some-such in there, but to me it's just a show about sexualized preteen girl graphically killing each other.
Life can seem a challenge. Life can seem impossible. It's never easy when so much is on the line.

Maybe. Maybe Not. I just really hate the frantic fast paced nature of his shows and how casual he treats the characters. Also, Eva ruined my perception of post Eva Gainax/Khara shows as I now believe that there is some sort of mind screw on in those shows.

^ Elfen Lied's manga art sucked also.
