I watched the first episode of One Piece and Rurouni Kenshin. In regards to One Piece, I came into it not knowing a lot but I came out of it loving how wacky it was. As for Rurouni Kenshin, it's been years since I have seen the episode in question but it reminded me of all the fun years I had watching these characters evolve in their sword styles as well as their character.

Is anyone else besides AR-99 watching Assassination Classroom? What a bizarre premise but the show is actually pretty decent.

Read some of the manga but got sidetracked. It is really good, though.

Madoka Magica Rebellion:
Image

WHY DO I KEEP DOING THIS TO MYSELF?

Finally watched it. . . now all I have to do is wait for the next film. Assuming that Urobutcher ever gets around to it.

Anyways, this is one really unique and trippy experience. It leads you on so much. . .

It starts out you think this is a story told during one of the time loops Homura is in, then it deviates, making you think it's it's own thing, like one of the DBZ movies. Then the twist happens revealing Kyubi was responsoble for the whole thing by imprisoning everyone inside a Matrix like simulation where Homura could have the life she never had with Madoka in order to study her and turn her into a witch so he can harvest soul gems again like he did in the alternate timeline. Then, the final twist happens, and I wont dare reveal that.

But I will say, Kyubi and the incubators got just what they deserved. They might not be able to feel fear, but Homura went Old Testament on them!

Loved the twist in Rebellion Story. Some people were hating, but it got me all wetted up for the next installation in the series. Can't wait to see where they go from there.

has anyone else been watching Yurikuma Arashi? Show by the same guy who did Utena and Penguindrum, but maybe a bit dumber and more obtuse. It's entertaining, and I'm starting to get an idea of what is going on
"The will to lose one's will?"
"Absolutely. The will to make oneself completely free. Will is the wrong word, because in the end you could call it despair. Because it really comes out of an absolute feeling of it's impossible to do these things, so I might as well just do anything. And out of this anything, one sees what happens."--Francis Bacon

YURI KUMA has me convinced that it seems like the older Ikuhara becomes, the more profound his stories become.

On a wet and otherwise idle afternoon, I just went and re-watched some Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight!

Image

-- and it held up really rather well. Truly one of the most well done "cute schoolgirls doing cute schoolgirl things" anime out there, even after all these years.

Image

Issues of aspect ratio and encoding aside, the only thing that really tells you that the show was made 8 years ago is the occasional bit of computing hardware (in a show set in the mid/late 2030s) that looks quaint even today.

The fact that Tokyo Ghoul is getting better ratings than this masterpiece makes me fear for the futue of the industry.

I liked Rebellion, but it was kind of unnecessary, if you catch my drift. It feels more like an add-on.

Awesome show, Ikuhara has still got it. It's sad to see he obviously works with a shoe-string budged, and not the greatest animators, but it's awesome to see him succeed nevertheless due to amazing visuals.

Ah, shit always gets more love because it's edgy. -> Mirai Nikki As long as I get one watchable show per season, I'm content. And this season we've got Death Parade, Yuri Kuma, Parasyte and the ever so lovely slice of life Durarara. I don't want to suggest, they are free of problems, but they at least know how to tell a story.
Tokyo Ghoul Second Season has an awesome opening though, but from what I've read, it's wasted on a horde of dimwits who cannot appreciate it.

I'm not that convinced by Yuri Kuma Arashi yet. The humor is unmistakably Ikuhara, but it is quite bizarre and over the top even by his standards. As for the writing in general, it still has all the possibility to turn into a disaster although it has had a couple of solid standalone episodes.

Digimon Adventure episodes 1 and 2

Even better in it's original form without that shitty Saban dub. I do have to note that Yamato's seiyuu seems to me too old for the role. My favorite of the kids' Japanese voices is Mimi's and I think it's the very same who sings the extremely catchy ending theme.

Cross Ange episode 19

Salia, Ersha, and Chris are under the Embryo effect of loyalty which he tried to do with Ange but she ain't having it and good too since a plot that turns for the worse with Ange under Embryo's control would've sucked. I didn't support either Ersha without any second thought attacking Vivian whom she was so close to nor Sylvia whipping Riza for simply not being a good enough coerced slave. Also, Sylvia blaming Ange for Julio's death seems to me like Embryo lied to her about that as well and because I do want Sylvia to have a happy reunion with Ange, it better take the mother of all writing twists to bring them back together as loving siblings or i'll revolt! And the panty shot of Momoka due to her calling for Mana to get her out of one of her jams is just another obligatory and unnecessary bit of fan service that should've gone out the door a long time ago.

The dubs of any anime that was intended for kids earlier than 2000 (and a lot later) are pure anthrax. It is known.

It's funny, the German scripts of Digimon were very close to those of the original, so I was surprised to see the high-tempo pun-in-your-face dialogue crafted for the English speaking audiences. I was even more baffled, that I in fact found the tidbits of DigimonU.S. I saw, pretty funny, albeit they're everything but faithful to their Japanese counterpart.
Then I finally understood, why Digimon was not such a big hit in the German sphere as it has been in the U.S.; western children seem to like their entertainment to drag you along with high tempo so you're unable to lose interest. Cause let's face it: the original versions are slower paced, much less "witty" and recycle a lot of footage. Also, the German edition had been translated in a very direct manner, which obviously didn't work that well with the German language. A lot of the talking seemed rather stiff and unnatural. So when the movie was released, and the Germans used the cut-together footage and spiced up dialogue from the American versions, I was surprised that the talking had a much more natural flow to it than the series I knew.

Digimon U.S. is very different from its Japanese counterpart, both have their merits; IMHO.
Though, the intros for the American versions are too hyper, and the original songs, especially for Tamers and Adventure are still some of my favourite songs coming out of the world of Anime.

Anyways, I'm pretty stoked about the Adventure sequel. Judging from the art, they actually seem to care about the franchise; and not butcher it like they did with Sailor Moon Crystal.

Beast Speaker Erin 7: Did not expect it to happen at dawn.

Surprisingly good job of rehabilitating Wadan, as he'd looked like a complete heel up to this point. But it's clear he didn't want Soh-yon dead; she was a rival, not an enemy per se.

And who is Nassan? I can't find mention of him anywhere.

We've started watching Akatsuki no Yona, which has made a promising start like a sort of role-reversed Moribito, though with a strong retro feel -- archaic anime mannerisms like sliding into SD to emphasise the humorous bits. Now it's started to slide into the "gather up the reverse harem" stage, I'll have to see how it carries on -- the ditzy blond seems to have great annoyance potential.

The mysterious green-haired chap in the hooded cloak, you mean? (says he, after checking the internet)
Soh-yon's fiance from her own people; but his active part in the story really doesn't come until much later.
