Part of the plan was to make criminals aware there is someone who will strike them down. Everything that followed was because he was on a power trip thanks to the Death Note. Also, the consideration of lazy people comes much later towards the end but I won't even acknowledge the second half as canon so retarded the story was at that point.

Indeed, so that criminals will stop their activities by fear of instant death and the people will worship Kira as an all-seeing and all-powerful being. Even the first part of the plan was part of his powertrip.

Been a long time since i've watched Death Note but i always thought it was intentional on the authors's part that you couldn't quite tell where Light's dedication to an ideal world of complete/righteous justice began and where Kira's bloodshed and power fantasies ended. Also, it was subtle but i'm pretty sure the Death Note was presented as having some "demonic" or corrupting power on anyone who so much as touched it. It's probably why in the final episode

SPOILER: Show
When Light is running away into his dying place we get various flashbacks to the nice kid he was before stumbling into the Death Note, culminating in crossing paths with his student self the day before discovering the Death Note

Plus, there was a marked difference in how he behaved in the Yotsuba arc when he had his memories as Kira erased and didn't touch the Death Note and the rest of the series. Regardless it was clear from the first episode's conclusion that the anime was most likely not going to end well. Maybe it was just a gut feeling.

They need to remake this anime with a different ending.
SPOILER: Show
It was so good to start off with Light and L's battle, then the shit hit the fan and Ryuk left Light, therefore Light became a pussy for the rest of the show. And then somehow gets outsmarted by L's sidekicks. The last episode with Light going back to his dark side was so refreshing, unfortunately he got outsmarted by copycat character and killed by an underdeveloped side character, not a way to go out.
. This show had so much potential, sigh, maybe someday someone will remake it and do it more justice. Definitely wouldn't mind seeing it get the FMA or Rebuild treatment.

Is the second half in the manga less dog shit than the Anime's take on it? Since the adaption of it was apparently rushed and all.

Death Note could've been so much more...

As a general consensus the second part is far inferior to the first one, no matter the support.

Yeah it was better in the manga as it was less rushed, but it was still inferior to the parts of the manga where Light was against L.

I agree that the ending of Death Note was pretty rushed, but I don't dislike it at all. Light was so full of himself and so confident that, when he realized he fuckd it up, he panics and became the psychopath pussy he always was. I also like Matsuda killing him, because he proved that not only is a funny guy, but someone who firmly believes in good and is ready to kill if he's pissed off. But the problem of the ending is the Near's plan. I mean, doesn't have much sense to me. IIUC, Near was going to fall in Light's plan, but Mello warned him that Takada could kill (??) and, because of that, he started to think there is a fake note. First of all, why? I mean, maybe Takada had some pages of Mikami's note or something. Idk how that implies that there is a fake note. Whatever, then Mikami goes to the bank in a strange day, and Giovanni finds out Mikami wrote Takada's name. So, he finds out that note was real. So, he changes the note for a fake one. He also changes previously some empty pages of Mikami fake note, so that nobody dies in the day 28.

1. If they are empty pages, how Mikaki knows they are fake?

2. What Mello concretely knows about the Death Note to warn N?

3. How N knows that there is a fake note with the information of Mello?

4. How Giovanni knows that the note locked in the bank is real and not the fake note he changed the pages? I mean, maybe Mikami doesn't know and wrote the name Takada in the fake note. I mean, he didn't because he knows it's fake, but Giovanni could think that.

Earlier this month, I was listening to YMS's talk about the Netflix Death Note movie. Naturally, ranting about how awful it is lead to gushing about how much they loved the anime series. I watched the initial few episodes back in college, and remember liking what I saw. And so my wife and I got ourselves hooked and barreled through the show over the past 2-3 weeks.

Death Note is a solid show. I don't think it's something I would rewatch, but I'm glad I watched it at least once. The first third was definitely really enjoyable, and the final third definitely felt a bit rushed. I think my favorite moment in the series was where Rem tells Misa about Gelus. It was brief, but I found it moving, and really interesting, an aspect of the world that I feel they could have explored more.

I saw the show recently on Netflix and I personally LOVED the show (pretty much in all ways). However, like EM said above, it's good for watching maybe once. I watched the Dub and feel satisfied with just watching that, it was decent. ^_^

I recommend watching the Relight/Rewrite movies if you guys haven't seen them already. They add some deleted scenes that weren't in the show. However, these are probably more for the hardcore fans, since they change some parts of the part quite a bit, basically like the Live-Action Fullmetal Alchemist or Death Note movies and how they (tried to) condense the plot of the entire anime into the run time of a movie, which usually doesn't end well (as we've seen before. ) The second half of the show was especially crunched and a lot got changed with the plot, however if you've seen the show, you could probably piece everything together from the show and the movie.

Honestly, I still think it's just as good now as it was then (though I never watched it back then, but I can imagine how popular it was just based on all the YT Videos, Fan Art, Fanfiction, etc.) Guess it was because it was a little ahead of it's time with how crazy the plot was (though I assume it's almost the exact plot from the Manga, which I'm planning on starting to read soon.)

This is just me though, and I'm aware that the show isn't perfect by ANY means. (:|

I kinda wish that we could have gotten an OVA showing what would've happened if Light had won in the end. Also, I hate how Light used Misa and took advantage of her love for him. Also, I think that Misa committed suicide at the end of the series. She did say that she couldn't live in a world without Light.

Yeah, I agree on that whole thing with us not getting at least SOME kind of REAL resolution for Light, rather than having him just die and have that be it with NO explanation. I guess we're supposed to assume that since users of the Death Note don't go to Heaven or Hell, they go to "nothingness" (the Shinigami realm.) However, from there, further things about what happened to him starts to rely on the whole "Light is the unnamed Shinigami" theory, which has been debated as both right and wrong amongst fans ever since the Rewrite/Relight movies have been out, so as far as we know, none of that is canon. :irked:

The train ride with Misa at the end of the series (at least to me) gives a sort of vibe that she's moving on to the afterlife after she killed herself (sort of going off of what you said.) That's probably just me overanalyzing some simple shots they put in there for the sake of making it the ending look more dramatic, who knows.

I'm a bit of a Light or L myself with deducting...right down to going overboard in analyzing things. -o-;

This sequel chapter was actually so good, I'd love for another season of Death Note if the author can continue to adapt the manga to the modern world so well. Kinda blown away it was this much of a good read.
