Xard, is the chart you posted suppose to highlight the various different animation styles through out the original series? I'd immediately recognized the dreaded "fat heads" in the last rows. Disappointing that aside from Usagi/Sailor Moon, the rest of the Sailor Team has been replaced but still, I'm looking forward to it, regardless. We'll just have to wait and see.

It's a "sakkan" (sakuga kantoku) or animation director chart. It shows what characters look like under each animation director.

Thanks for the clarification. The last animation director will always have me :cringe: when it comes to the depiction of the girls.

I don't think anyone liked Masahiro Ando on Sailor Moon.

Now Ikuko Itoh, She did the best animation in the series. ^_^

Correction: The SM talk show event 3 (Saturday's thing) states it was Mitsuishi who hand-picked the new cast. :misato_service:

Everybody on board seems like they sincerely want to make a new product that lives up to the series that old fans fondly remember (and create something good for the new fans) so I have high hopes for the show.

I wonder if there'll be a talk show event 4 that mentions the casting for Mamochan and the others? I guess it might just be mentoned in a Nakayoshi issue or the official site, but that'd be a little weak.

I hope at one of these events, Naoko herself will talk, but if I remember correctly, somewhere she self-admitted to being shy in public.

Sorry to change the topic but I wonder why Toei can change the entire animation of the show
from the original and give the SM fans something "brand new", yet for Dragonball Kai we
sorta got a bunch of wasted potential.

damn cheapskates..

Wasn't DB Kai just a remastered cut and paste of DBZ?

Either way, already people on different forums (e.g. ANN) have been complaining the character designs for SM Crystal "look cheap" or "oh god it'll be flash animation", so go figure. :irked:

Edit: Slight typo

Those folks can have a nice cup of STFU and wait until we get the final product. Once we do, they can bitch to their heart's content.

DB was also more faithful to the manga than SM was in both story and design. There wasn't much they could have changed, other than cutting the filler, without changing the manga's story and designs.

I think she's going to sound like Kallen from Code Geass (which is basically toned down Ryuko). I think it's rather perfect for Jupiter.

View Original PostSailor Star Dust wrote:For reference, the above clip is from 2000, and since then she's preformed the lines at cons, etc. If she's still got it at Misato, she'll be fine as Usagi. Ebichu (from 1999) was a cutesy Usagi-type voice anyway. Pretty sure Mitsuishi mentioned at a con that Misato is a different role from the norm in regards to using her voice, compared to characters like Usagi, etc. Example of her natural voice and some samples here.

Well, only reason this occured to me was one comment in ANN news thread by someone who had seen Mitsuishi fairly recently in con and found her Usagi lines she did on the spot strained/not-sounding-right-or-something. I'm not too worried about the prospect myself.

View Original PostSailor Star Dust wrote:Initially, I was concerned about a mostly new voice cast, but since other folks are confident things'll be fine and Naoko hand picked the seiyuu herself, I think it'll be good. Hope Ami won't be moe-moe because that's just not her character type. It'd be nice if Toru (Mamochan) and Keiko (Luna/Beryl) reprise their roles, but even if they get new people, as long as their voices fit, I'll be happy. Luna's seiyuu was in PGSM (live action TV series), but Artemis was played by Inu Yasha's seiyuu instead of his original voice, so who knows.

They're all talented and experienced seiyuu so I don't think there'll be issue. Hisako Kanemoto is able seiyuu too and I do like her freaking adorable voice. It's just that as you say the stereotypical Kanemoto voice (Squid Girl, all roles of her I know of sound like this but then again this might just be typecasting) isn't really in line with "image" of Ami's character. I'm not saying it won't work out but it's pretty out there casting choice. Something like Yui Horie would've been more along the lines of my expectations, I guess.

As for Mamoru I...kinda don't want that seiyuu to return at all. Not because he's bad (he definetly isn't) but because I always found the slightly nasally voice to be weird for such bishounen-Harlock-wannabe character. It weirded me out a bit from first episode. More importantly whenever I hear Toru Furuya speak I think of Amuro Ray. I can't help it.

So yeah whenever Tuxedo Mask was jumping around and throwing roses and shit I couldn't get Amuro's half-irish face out from my head!

Tuxedo Mask is based on Captain Harlock? Wut!?

:cringe:

Jeez, you learn something everyday. I would've expected his character to be more Harlock-ish.

As a big Harlock fan I'd be lying if I said Mamoru wasn't quite a letdown... at least in first season.

(but yeah mangaka has gone on record about Harlock being inspiration for the character)

Do yourself a favor and read the manga (second print version since the third print version is only just out in Japan) if you can, it's so worth it.

I still find it interesting how it was Mitsuishi to have input on the seiyuu, though rumors are maybe the production of SM Crystal has been at such a standstill (it was pushed back so maybe times) because Naoko wasn't happy with how Toei changed certain aspects from manga to anime the first time around (Haruka and Michiru's personalities, Sailor Starlights, etc) or because Crystal will have a more mature setting/style compared to the original anime.

I'm assuming Naoko has had plenty of input on the show this time around (especially if it will be manga-based anime), and if memory serves she had on and off input for the 2004 live action PGSM show.

If it's true that were looking at a adaption that's more closer to the manga, then I sincerely hope that the so-called "Dream" Arc will compensate for how lackluster SuperS was. It had some of the best animation of the entire series, I'll give you THAT but there was too much focus on Chibi-usa for something that should've been just as much about Moon, Tuxedo Mask, the Sailor Team and the Outers. I don't hate the series but it could've been so much more.

I also have hopes that Mamoru/Tuxedo Mask will have more to do. I was surprised how active he was in the manga, at least compared to the anime.

I need to take a small break from Jojo after blowing through Part IV, the original manga series looks like a good thing to read during my small bizarre detour :D

Maybe to ensure that the animation quality remains high? I like to think so.

But more likely is the fact that a longer running time equals more revenue in merchandise while costing less due to a smaller amount of Episodes to produce. And since this will be aired Net-only, they can pull off a bi-weekly schedule much easier than on television, where they are enslaved to programming-schedules of the networks.
