Galaxy Angel
A few simple questions, for anyone familiar with the series Galaxy Angel.
1. Do you think Vanilla a Rei rip-off, or at least a Rei inspired character.
2. I've got seasons 1-3, but I'm told season 4 sucks pretty bad. Anyone seen it?
3. Should I be admitting I watch this series?

No matter how many times you watch your copy of End of Evangelion, the ending is not going to change.

I've seen some of Galaxy Angel.
1. If Vanilla is the character I'm thinking of, then yes, she is a rip-off of Rei.
2. I think I've only seen the first season.
3. Yes.

One thing about GA season 4 -- there was definitely a sense of rushed production because it was made in a hurry when Kinnikuman II Ultimate Muscle season 2 was dropped after one cour (13 episodes) instead of the original planned two cours.
I have not seen the anime/manga/game though.

I never thought I would come back to Evangelion after EoE,
But I discovered Re-Take (or it found me?) and
now here I am.

And I even watched it dubbed.
Haha, my mom actually bought me the first season because she found it on sale at the library for $3 and knew I liked anime.
1. Yes, but "The Rei" has become such a standard anime archetype that it doesn't matter. You'd be hard pressed to find a modern anime that doesn't include a Rei rip-off.
2. I've only seen the first season so I honestly don't know.
3. Yes.
This is a word?

Yes it is. Japanese tv programming (or at least with anime) separates year into four cours - winter, spring, summer and fall of course.
In the 80s you had 4-cour shows that ran for 52 episodes (aka whole year), but after bubble economy crashed at most we'd get 26 episode aka 2 cour series with very few exceptions (such as neverending shounen anime ofc).
In 00s it's very rare to get enough sponsors, money pool etc. to make even two cour show, hence most of the series are only one cour. K-ON!! was 2 cour show simply because it had shown itself to be lucrative deal with one cour first season. Similar reasoning is behind other KyoAni 2 cour projects - KEY fanbase was large and with great commercial potential and KyoAni had proved their worth and ability to deliver a hit with one cour Air already.
All in all if you want to get 2 cour show these days and you're not Gundam, Macross, Code Geass or KyoAni show you're pretty much screwed.
ESPECIALLY with late night anime. Gurren Lagann got lucky break as it was saturday morning cartoon and even then it nearly killed GAINAX.

Re: Galaxy Angel
Not sure how I missed this thread.
IIRC Galaxy Angel, then Galaxy Angel Z, then A, then X. I actually thought the first season was the weakest. It focused more on fleshing out the characters than wacky gags. The gags were really the crux of the show. The end of Galaxy Angel A is sort of weird. IIRC, it was either they tried to suddenly play it serious for the last episode, or they were trolling but it turned out not being very funny at all and felt completely out of place. I didn't have any problems with X, probably one of my favorite seasons.

The other half is rigorous fapping.

Well I knew all that, of course, I just didn't know there was an actual word for it.
But now I know, and knowing is half the battle.
InstrumentalityOne wrote:So it´s the same as the word "season"?
Sort of but not exactly. A single season can contain more than one cour, so for example you could get a two cour, 26 episode season.
Meaning of Cour
I used to use the word "season" when the Japanese word is クール but it got people confused because a season could be perceived as longer than the standard 12-13 week span that the word クール precisely defines. For example Index II is the second season of Index but it consists of two cours.
The origin of the word クール is not clearly known. The most popular theory is that it came from the French word cour meaning "course". For more information check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cours_%28TV_production%29#Seasons.2Fseries
And bear in mind that it is not just an anime term, it is a word used extensively in broadcast media industry in Japan.

Which is why I was surprised that Star Driver got two cours because it was none of the above. I am sure it got some very powerful sponsor behind it because besides the length, animation quality seems to be on the high budget side too.

Actually every season has a serious episode like that. For season two, the serious episode was done as bonus episode, in season one it was a normal episode in the series. Ending the season with the serious episode did seem a strange choice.
