Now we just need Anima to be released in English.

Yep. Just watched the OVA; it wasn't very good and was just an abridged and mangled 11 minute version of the manga. The only good thing about it was seeing HoiHoi-san animated, I guess.

There's an official English release of the manga, apparently, but it's a bit strange; The cover is identical to the Japanese one (which is probably why it escaped my notice) and the translation is very sloppy. It was apparently published in English in 2007, three years after its release in Japan.

The manga's just a single volume, by the way. It's pretty funny, you should check it out.

Only up to Vol. 8 so far. It's still ongoing, or at least I haven't heard anything about them canceling it.

At least you have Kugikyu voicing Hoi-hoi-san. :)

Sloppy official translaton? Hmmm......

Guess you can always go for scanlation if you want... Of course I stick to the Japanese edition -- now up to Vol.11 (published end of Feb this year)

I hear Kugimiya's name thrown around a lot on /a/, but I've never been familiar with her work. I just nod and smile and pretend I know who they're talking about since she's obviously a famous seiyuu. Just now I looked up her filmography and it seems the only anime I've seen with her in it are HoiHoi-san (obviously) and Queen's Blade. I feel like a failure of an otaku. orz

View Original Postsymbv wrote:Sloppy official translaton? Hmmm......

I guess they didn't expect it to sell so they didn't make much of an effort. The translator was Korean, apparently. I mean it's not really bad or anything, but it was bad enough to make me think I was reading a fan-translation until I realized the scans hadn't been altered.

This is from wiki entry of Kugikyu

Kugimiya is most known for the roles of Nagi Sanzenin in Hayate no Gotoku!, Shana in Shakugan no Shana, Kagura in Gintama, Louise in Zero no Tsukaima, and more recently, Taiga Aisaka in Toradora!. She is typecasted to tsundere loli roles due to her voicing of tsundere characters Nagi (Hayate no Gotoku!), Shana (Shakugan no Shana), Louise (Zero no Tsukaima), and Yuuhi (Akaneiro ni Somaru Saka), all of whose anime aired around the same time. Due to her popularity in such roles, some of her fans have named her as the Queen of Tsundere.

Many fans got addicted to being abused by Kugikyu characters and became a victim of Kugikyu-byo (Kugikyu Syndrome). The popularity of the videos like the following is testament to the severity of the situation
http://youtu.be/2HpHKXk8xPA
http://youtu.be/akCBl5hvvgs

The following was what happened when Kugikyu came to Taiwan. Some fans even fainted:

http://youtu.be/akCBl5hvvgs

Among the characters above my favorite is Shana. Shakugan no Shana was very popular in Japan but it seems it was not as well-known in the west.

I don't suppose anyone might be able to tell me where I could find some good scanlations of volume 9-11 for SIRP could you?

Also, Shimau makes an appearance.

NO, daseeeee comes from dasei which is the slang form of dasai, which means "uncool" in casual speech.

Read the first two volumes of Sheryl: Kiss in the Galaxy. Quite a twist to the canon storyline, but could be better written properly.

I'm not going to spoil the whole story, nor praising the manga. It's just that it could've been better, as I'm looking at the MF universe through different perspectives in a variety of media.

The scanlator only went as far as the first volume, and the third and last hasn't shown up yet.

Oh, yeah. True enough.

You should watch Macross Zero, out of all Macross works it has the strongest ties to Frontier.

And you better not read it if it shows up :P

also, smart scanlator!

The 73th chapter of Yotsuba was weak.
Really really really weak.

I think this might be getting a little stale.

The surprise is that while everyone thought it would be about the guy chasing his girl (or girls), the story turns out to be about something else...

=====

Anyway, currently reading a manga not shown in my "Recent Haul" post
Watashi no o-Uchi wa HonYa-san

A story that could only come out from Japan -- Miyu, a 10 year old girl, had to help run his father's bookstore after his mom ran away and his father could not afford to hire a helping hand. However there is a problem with this: The bookstore is a specialist adult books store!
There is in fact no sex or nudity inside, but a lot of humor and heartwarming moments. Got 3 volumes of it. Here are the covers of the first 2 volumes

AKB49´s awesome :D

Otaku no Musume-san is in the last two or something chapters since it got axed, by the way.
It keeps trying to troll me hard to the very end, but I hardly rage anymore.

The manga dokuha series by Eastpress is one of the many series in Japan that helps people learn more about famous works by using manga as the media. "Mein Kampf" may be controversial (what happens if a person in Germany mail orders it??) but as you can see in the link I provided, there are a lot more works which include Nietzsche's Antichrist, Descartes' Discourse on Method, even Jung's Analytical Psychology (don't ask me how any of these can be put to manga), as well as easier stuff for manga adaptation like Hamlet, La Traviata, Caesar's Gallic Wars and Old/New Testament (and a bunch of Japanese and Chinese classics as well).
