Methinks you're slightly off there: an "evangelist" is concerned with spreading the Gospel, but not in "converting" people in the sense that the word tends to convey. Although unfortunately the extremist "my way or the highway/you're all going to hell" members of Christendom are the ones most people think of when the word "evangelical" or any of its variants is used, that's not really what the word's meant to entail.
