My first words after watching the TV Ending were "What could have been...", the world without Eva seemed a lot more entertaining the entire series. If only Kaworu were in the world without Eva...then it would have been perfect.
And it also gave me this *******-comment.

Um, entertaining though discussions of Urotsuki-very-dodgy (as it is known in some quarters) may be, we're drifting from the point.
Which, amongst other things is why, after all the mismatch and revelations of mismatch, culminating in Asuka's final lines (in Complementation and on the darkling shore) they still believe there is any relationship left, or any possibility of one to be rebuilt (Adam and Eve scenario aside).
Is it just hope for a romantic and satisfying conclusion despite the example of the rest of the film and the series of all the relationships being broken?
Not to mention what's behind the frequent Asuka-as-hausfrau kinder+k%?Dche assumption in so much fan art and fiction - didn't they listen to ep#22?.

Yes. Shinji and Asuka in a happy vanilla flavoured relationship just doesn't make any sense.
If they did have any further relationship, Shinji would play the part of the downtrodden intimidated house-wife, cooking, cleaning and slaving for his vindictive, abusive partner Asuka, who dispite her apoplectic rage at even the very sight of his wretched form, still for some reason cannot bring herself to abandon him.
The two are destined for a lifetime of twisted and unhappy dependance on one another.
Will I be disembowled by Shinji/Asuka shippers now?

I cut down from the 1930's era injunction that a German woman's functions were Kirche, kinder und k%?Dche - Church, children and (in the) kitchen.

From the words of a FBI Agent from Family Guy(episode where they go down South.)
: "I smell a sitcom!"

Yes, I thought it might mean something to do with cooking. It sounds similar to our english word, for one, and it is part of the stereotype as you have pointed out.

Probably not. They'll just ignore it and go off and look at Pengel's S/A fanart site and the like, which is informative and illustrative of one strand of S/A shipping, at least.

Despite the way that EoE ends, I don't think anyone can really say for sure that A/S won't, or can't, happen. IMO, the whole point is that, no, there won't be some magical, glittery happy ending. They are back in reality, and reality involves struggle and suffering -- this is what Shinji chose to return to. And despite everything, Asuka chose to not only come back, but to mysteriously wind up at the exact same place where Shinji is. Why ARE they shown lying perfectly side-by-side on that beach?
It doesn't seem like a very logical thing to do if the message is, "...and these two have absolutely no future together." The idea I get is, "And the REAL fun has just begun..." The symmetry suggests a sort of unison, yet their hands do not touch. They have both hurt one another immeasurably and, now that ATFs have returned, they can hurt each other once again.
The whole A/S relationship seems to be based on a sort of irreconcilable opposition. 'I hate you, but I need you. I am oblivious to your advances, but you are everything I've ever dreamed. I want to help you, but all I do is hurt you. I want all of you, but I would rather die than do it with you. I give you this caress, but you disgust me.'
And... crap... what was I saying? Ah, ah. I guess the point is, these kids are young, messed-up, and confused. They don't really know WHAT the hell they want. So for all we know, "Kimochi warui" could just be a transient sentiment. As if Asuka has been incredibly consistent thusfar.

You know, perhaps the ending can be viewed as a hopeful one for the Shinji/Asuka relationship. Perhaps despite everything, these two can learn to live in happy unision. each may yet grow up and realise that they must give as well as take. The essential problem was that each failed to understand or communicate with the other. But now each may well have realised that the other needed them as well. The hedgehogs have snugged close enough to prick one another you might say, and have so realised that the other was also seeking warmth. They have all the time in the world to work it out at any rate.
However, whatever form their matrimony takes, I will still stand by the indisputable argument that Asuka will be the one on top!

Indeed, fantastic observations Reichu. That'll bring you closer to winning my award 'Best Contender for the Premature Reincarnation of Hideaki Anno'.
No, because if other S/A shippers are like me, that's exactly what we like anyway.

Reichu, just when did you get the ability to read other's minds?
Great post!
