The article strongly implies that the changes are at the end. Probably what they will do is change the aspect ratio for TVs, and either change the 2.0 preview and/or make the Kaworu scene more cryptic, but only so much as it implies whatever happens in 2.0.

Yeah, an "accurate" 2.0 preview seems pretty likely (maybe even just stuff from the existing trailers). Maybe squeezing some bits of Asuka and/or Mari in, but I kinda doubt it.
Dunno about aspect ratio. Most (new) productions are shown in 16:9 even here in D-land, and I sure think Japan's a bit ahead in that aspect.
As for the 2 hour block - remember, there'll be commercials too. Not sure how long/how many there usually are over there, but I wouldn't be too surprised if those eat up the rest of the time instead of "ZOMG new Scenes!"

so the ann article was updated to say that you'd have to watch it all the way through to see the differences. So that makes a new opening unlikely or at least not the "selling point"

The fact it's unedited I'm guessing that means it won't have any commercials? My guess is there will be an updated/correct version of the 2.0 Next Time Preview trailer as well as including the 1.11 footage, given what we see 2.0.

Ornette: Are you going to watch this then report back what differences have happened if any?

I'm glad to know Kara isn't cashing in on this, and although 1.0 getting re-re-released like this is starting to piss me off, I'm thinking it's not so much Anno having a say in it but more of that's how the business goes.

As long as they would eventually be a release with all 4 films with no darkness issues and the included material from 1.11, I'd be happy. (I REALLY hope Kara won't have to release some #.01/#.11 bullshit for every single film, that would really get on my nerves.)

Like I'm saying, don't get your hopes up. It'll either be the OP done in Rebuild animation or they'll just update the 2.0 Teaser with the actual shots from the film (instead of the 2 years old mockups they did in 2007).
