how did Asuka die in a good way? she was doing all kinds of badass stuff and then the lance just came out of no where and all the badass stuff she did was for nothing since the evas came back to life anyway.

and when she died it was like 5 minutes after her big discovery about her moms soul being in unit 2, because she died so soon after that scene, it completely killed that moment.

i guess its true that she did come back to life in the end anyway but still....

Don't get me wrong, Asuka is my favorite character as well, and it was painful to see her die like that. But seeing the mangled corpse of Unit-02 was pivotal in pushing Shinji towards initiating the Human Instrumentality Project, and the movie wouldn't have functioned the same without it.

I can only hope that Asuka's death is handled as well as it was in EoE if it does end up happening in Rebuild.

It's just as likely that she might get Killed Off For Real because that would be different, same as how Rei 2 not dying was considered a big difference.

This chat of Asuka dying has me intrigued. Obviously there are the supporters/opposers of her character but what I think will be interesting (assuming she does die) is the circumstances in which she dies.
Will she be killed as a Human or as an angel? (Although, if we still apply Misato's info from EoE, then she already is considered an angel) We don't know enough about the contact she had with Bardiel yet to make that kind of call.

On a side note: we also don't know that Kaworu is an angel. We assume he's an angel based on our knowledge of the T.V. series. But this doesn't necessarily mean he's the same this time round. I know what your thinking: "But he was breathing in space, how can he not be an angel?" Really it's based on one fact, it hasn't been publicly stated. We let our assumptions get the better of us. Plus, we have no idea at this point if there is some other race involved in all this. For all we know, Kaworu is actually something/someone that existed outside of the NME universe and has now entered into it. And that's why these movies are good, they built up your imagination because we barely know any absolutes in this series. However, Anno has been known to "troll" his fan base, so this could be an elaborate rouse.

As for Kaworu being an Angel, it's not just that he was breathing in space. There is also the matter of the coffin he woke up in, and all the coffins around him, on the moon. Seriously, what the fuck is up with those coffins! I have to know!

Ok, so physically she won't become an angel. But what we don't know the extent of the mental contamination. (Although the trailers seem to suggest she's pissed!) All I'm trying to get at is that we don't have all the details at the moment.

LOL!! you know that they have done a good job at keeping the plot secret when people speculate to the point where they think Asuka could be an angel....im starting to think that people may be expecting to much. this rebuild series is meant to be for fans and newcomers, because of that i think that they are going for a more simple plot for the rebuild movies

because she had half screen time in 2.0 and is a fan favorite i think most likely Asuka will live. i think mari might live because shes new. if Rei dies they can bring in Rei 3. bah, if any characters die it may not be until 4.0

Her death in EoE was essential, as it was the only way to effectively resolve her character arc; she needed to learn that running away to Eva wasn't the way to deal with life's issues. If she'd just died it would have been tragic, but since she came back she's maybe finally gotten the message. That bit of hope at the end is the whole point of the exercise.

She did mention that she doesn't want to be treated like a puppet, so yeah it'll probably happen.

Not really, because the EVA series was needed for 3I, and even if she died in the middle of one of those "cool fight" you know those limpet scenes that everyone likes in anime, She still had to die.
