Seriously...is there no information on an English release?

and if there is no plans for an English release yet, when is it coming out on DVD (or other home video format...) in Japan?

No news on any licensing, although I'm sure ADV is probably working on it (an interview of CEO says it could take 6 months of negotiation to work out a license, IIRC). No word on an R2 DVD release date, wild guess would be early next year. R1 release will not be for a while so you're best bet for watching it ASAP is to steal it from the internet when it gets fansubbed.

I'm going to go ahead and use this opportunity to say how there are VERY SMALL CAMERAS that are practically undetectable that you could EASILY SNEAK INTO A THEATER WITHOUT GETTING SEEN...

Why, in God's name, would you want your first viewing of Rebuild to be some shitty bootleg with shitty video and even shittier audio?

That'd be shitty.

And if you combine it with having read the spoilers page, you will pretty much have had the full experience of shittiness.

...True, but.... WE'D STILL HAVE THE OPTION...

Oh, who am I kidding. I promised myself I wouldn't watch it unless the bootleg was really good.

It's going to take a long friggin time for a domestic edition. But within a day or two of the Japanese DVD release, there will be a fansub circling every corner of the internet. If you want to know when you can get your hands on it (for free), take the Japanese DVD release, and add 24-72 hours.

I'd dl it first and then wait for the 15th release of the boxset with director's commentary, deleted scenes, and Anno's severed hand.

It'll probably either be released Christmas time (if we're super lucky) or, otherwise, early next year. A fan sub will probably be out within a couple of days of that.

Although, on the note of cams, since I saw it while I was over in Japan, I can tell you you probably don't want to watch Rebuild first time on a terrible cam.

The DVD and the sequel will probably be out at the same time, and I'd happily approximate this as just before Easter/March.

That sounds like an extremely limited release. When can I pre-order?

Speaking of DVD and sequel releases....

Its kinda funny 2.0 doesn't have an official release date yet. I guess their original proposal of 2.0 coming out in January 2008 might not be reached.

As for DVD....I don't know for sure but if DVD releases are as rushed as they are in the states then I'd say mid-December would be your best bet.
