EVA-EXTRA: extracted files & interviews

Hey there! I managed to extract the recently released interviews from the EVA-EXTRA app!

As part of khara's new premium subscription service, 14 of 25 interviews from the 1.0 CRC have been released on the app.
The recently released softcover reissues of the CRCs (1.0 and 2.0) don't include any interviews, which khara conveniently mentions as a reason to publish (some of) them digitally. Apparently khara also plans to release interviews from the 2.0 CRC and promises to publish some exclusive content (maybe interviews) regarding the upcoming 3.0+1.0 movie on the app in the near future.

The interviews are released as raw text on the app, which makes it very easy to copy, paste and translate!
I wanted to make this accessible to the community in order to make future translations of these interviews easier.
I plan to update this post as new content gets added to the EVA-EXTRA app in the future!

All the interviews are in html format. They can be opened with any browser. Should work on phones as well.
For the images to appear, the interviews need to stay in the same folder as their corresponding images.
The interviews are numbered as originally released in the 1.0 CRC. Enjoy!

edit (March 2nd, 2020): Joseki noted that there's a mistake in the digital version of interview 06: 松原 is mistakenly noted as 樋口 in the second part of the interview. He fixed it in his CRC thread! I'd like to note that I will not change this in the html files, as I want to keep everything accurate to the EVA-EXTRA app. I fixed and updated the file for interview 06. If you happen to find any mistakes in the digital interviews when comparing it to the print version, please message me about it!

edit (March 9th, 2020): I added a link to an archive with all the files I've extracted from the EVA-EXTRA app so far! The password is evageeks.

edit (April 24th, 2020): I updated the archive with the new 3.0+1.0 logo. A few new images were added here and there. I added a link to the new audio commentary for 1.11. The password is evageeks.

edit (April 25th, 2020): I added links to the new audio commentaries for 2.22 and 3.33. The password is evageeks.

edit (May 13th, 2020): All the links are dead for now.

edit (September 20th, 2020): Nine more interviews were added to the app! As of now, 23 of 25 interviews from the 1.0 CRC have been released digitally through EVA-EXTRA.

edit (October 16th, 2020): Accompanying the release of the third trailer for 3.0+1.0, a new flyer is being distributed in movie theatres across Japan. This flyer was also added to the EVA-EXTRA app.

I watched all the audio commentaries, and while most of it was all just normal chit-chat, there were a few interesting bits. Nothing too juicy though, cause whenever there were explicit Shin Eva spoilers, they would cut to audio of Soul's Refrain instead.

1.0:
Nothing really noteworthy to me.

2.0:
When Asuka first meets Shinji, sliding down Unit 02, Megumi Ogata comments on how it's nice to see the old, normal Asuka and Rei. When the shot then cuts to Toji and Kensuke, she comments on getting to see them as they are normally too, and then cuts herself off, saying she probably shouldn't say anything more. (Pretty much confirming time skip Toji and Kensuke.)

Some of the staff say that 2.0 was originally much more similar to 1.0, being much more adherent to the plot of the TV series, but after 1.0's success and seeing that not just old otaku, but large groups of middle schoolers were also coming to see the new Eva, Tsurumaki told them they should "break" Eva. This is what led to getting a 2.0 that breaks away from the TV series as it goes on.
Ogata chimes in though that she always felt the new movies were going to be very different ever since she read the scene in 1.0 where Misato goes down to Central Dogma with Shinji.

During the fight with Zeruel, almost for 5 full minutes, Megumi Ogata gets replaced with Soul's Refrain because she's talking about Shin Eva and it's final scene and what she thinks Eva is really about. Once the song finally stops, she comes back and asks the viewers to please come back and watch this part again once they've seen Shin Eva. She thinks they'll understand her feelings. (It is ambiguous if she means watching the Zeruel fight, or the commentary itself, which has not been confirmed at all to be released uncensored upon the release of Shin Eva or anything yet.)

They call the preview at the end "problematic".

3.0:
That original shutter silhouette stunt at one of the Eva stores that first revealed the character designs for 3.0 was originally gonna have more characters, but then they realized it was too spoilery and cut some. (Again, probably Toji, Kensuke, and Hikari.)

A staff member comments on how surprised they were to see the Key of Nebuchadnezzar hadn't appeared again yet by 3.0. He's then surprised again when they say he won't get Soul's Refrain'd for his comment since he stated it vaguely enough.

They mentioned that the main complaint they kept getting over and over after it premiered was that people didn't understand it, but since 3.0 and Shin were supposed to originally be billed together, they hope that people can expect most of those answers in the second half.

Wow, so good!
Thank you for putting this up, I was going crazy trying to scrape data from the android app or coming up with something, would really like to know how you did it as Im still learning about apps and this kind of tinkering!

BTW, I also watched the commentaries and the two last live watches they did yesterday with eva staff and Yoko Takahashi on youtube that basically were a second audio commentary to all effects, while I snatched the stream video of those last two, I couldnt see or get the video of the first one for 1.0, which was kind of chaotic apparently and plent yof people complained on how badly organized it was, on the other side, Yoko Takahashi showed up with a Unit 01 costume so Its a pity I didnt get to see it, I can upload the live watches If thats alright whenever I find somewhere to upload it since my gdrive and Mega are pretty full.

Dunno If I should share my impression on all commentaries here or in the the spoiler section because they got juicy enough to get some vague guesses about the last film´s contents, some are soft confirmations of things in the film, while some other are things that are very likely to be on it considering that the staff were commenting on it, like one of the staff trying to remember if the interior of the Key of nabuchednezzar was a spoiler or if it already showed up before, while talking about it in a way that hints of what it is when the special guest tried to guess it(If true, Its one of the theories people have discussed here), the case is that there was a lot of spoilers in the conversation, which is the reason they obscured them playing Tamashii no rufuran during those segments, If someone tried listening and wondered what that was about. There was of course production stuff all around and I suppose Its okay to say that finally we got confirmation that right now the complete records for Q are being worked on. Also, Does somebody know about a character or thing called Rover/Rober/Roba/Roobaa?, because Im got the impression we may just have learned the name of our new eva mascot unless I understand they are talking about something else(and I can get confused easily!)

As someone who felt really impacted by that scene this has me really hyped.

A good ending should make you reconsider stuff. I feel we will probably be getting back to the "noble motivation vs. personal motivation" thing.

Nice to know that someone archived the YouTube commentaries too. I watched the first one for 1.0, but they streamed it with the 20+ twitter contest winners joining in. Because of that, there pretty much was no focused commentary from the participating staff. The one nice thing that made it better though, was actually having the movie's video feed in the window too, unlike the 2.0 stream.

I wasn't planning to check out the 2.0 stream, seeing as they were gonnna have upwards of 80 people joining and I was already burnt out after watching all the app commentaries and the chaotic 1.0 stream, but to my surprise when I tuned in, they were actually just focusing on the staff. I didn't continue watching it, but I checked my YouTube history and the stream was actually accessible that way:
https://youtu.be/ufhcnfTfDT4
The video itself is unlisted, but if anyone accessed the 1.0 or 3.0 stream when logged into their Youtube account, they can access it through their watched history and even share direct links to them.

And where was that Roba thing from again?! I was totally stumped for that one too. I had to look up a ton of the anime production technical terms, but those would always come up. Roba was like the one thing I counted find online. Do you remember what movie/scene they talked about it during?

Just to be clear, this was during the Mari portion of the fight, not the Shinji part, which is why I'm leaning toward her saying people to come back and watch it again being in reference to her commentary itself and not the scene. Unless Mari has a critical role in the last film relating to the main theme or something...

I should also probably mention that throughout the 2.0 commentary they talk about the theme of "communication" a lot, and during Ogata's long, censored rant, it does actually cut back to her mid-thought at one point, with her saying, "...so, one by one, communicating with everyone, because it creates its own kind of atmosphere, a feeling of being able to tackle anything..."

Oh Rover right.

SPOILER: Show
Im pretty sure Its the name of the donkey with Gendou and Fuyutsuki,it was basically the only thing they really talked about in the preview, awaiting for it to appear, calling it "beloved rover", "I love Rover", "Yeah, Rover". then around the moment the Donkey appears someone says "there it is!", as it is a couple seconds out of sync between the audio and video(you often notice how they are some seconds ahead) its not 100% sure, but Im pretty sure thats the thing

Aside from what Intermediate0 posted, I think that the "problematic" thing about the preview was done in jest as "this is the preview that everyone has problems with", It was said in a way that pretty much said to me were gonna see some of that in the final film, coupled with the Rover thing I found it a no brainer.

SPOILER: Show
Ogata mentions how odd is that Shinji hasnt yet called Mari by her name by this point (2.0) , that says to me that she notices since they interact to that level in the final film.

The special guest for 3.0 hasnt seen the fourth film, when he says that the key of Nabuchednezzar hasnt shown up since Kaji gave to Gendou(either he meant that the key hasnt been shown doing anyhing or he didnt notice Gendou has it in 3.0), the staff avoids the question in a way that tells its gonna show up, not only that, when Seele gets shut down, they take notice of the brains inside the monoliths(confirmed!) and the guest says the key looks like the rest of the
body, they basically react like he touched on something, other staff member trying to remember if the key
s interior has actually being shown before(the final film I suppose), and then drop the subject as Its prohibited territory.

Indeed they mention more characters in the shutters, the films at some point in time were to be shown together, what else...

Shigeto Koyama drew all the gengas of unmoving people in the last part of the first film.
in Q, part A was dircted by Masayuki, B was probably Maeda and C was Tsurumaki, no mention of part D.
The Wunder´s voice is apparently Hayashibara.
Ogata didnt remeber at all that Kaji´s new introduction scene for the home video version existed.
She also has a very vivid memory about the cut Asuka scene where her face gets ripped off, saying It was crazy how Miyamura was screaming, that it was very shocking and they guess thats probablt the reason she gave it all when Shinji is saving Rei, she even takes notice of Shinji´s face getting ripped off too.

One thing they often mention is that they dont remember that much of the little details as these films were made a decade ago(so they have Shin fresh on their minds considering what elements in Q they recognize and wonder if have appeared yet)
One was wondering if Kaworu did mention the Infinity by name at some point in this film.
When the preview for Shin comes,Kamimura(groundworks chief, now Gainax too), who knows a lot about the story and settings(he even has to tell everyone that the remote units of Unit nº13 are called Hoppers) just says "and there they are, the mass production units, and 8+2-chan", which for me sounded like confirmation we are going to see these in the last film.

When Unit 02 and Mark 09 are fighting at the end the guest says he likes the music in this scene but wonders if... and cuts to Tamashii no rufuran for a while, after they get back to the commentary one of the staff members just said "but yeah, It plays/will play" either meaning that she is confirming to him that a certain song is gonna play in the last film or she is just telling him they are going to obscure the conversation with Tamashii no rufuran in post.

Oh! You're right! Roba (ろば/驢馬) is donkey! I actually do remember looking it up now and getting the right definition. I probably forgot because it was the last thing of 2.0 and then I went right to watching 3.0.

Hmm... I do still remember one word I just couldn't place though... Oh well. If I ever go back and watch the commentaries again, hopefully it'll come up again.

Yeah, pretty much, but I saw in such a hurry that the way they said it made me feel like it was accentuated as in like lunar rover, was probably just my impression since they talked about it like it was a beloved character.

I edited my previous post with some more details as to not overpost with every little detail I remember.

They also said that they dont know what the chalk silhouette in 1.0 is since they don get told everything but it was added in the middle of production(So apparently Anno put it after knowing what it was at the time) when when they tried to check the CRC light version, they found uot that the layout by Anno just says "line of chalk in the form of a person", odd that she didnt notice how it says in big letters that its related to the second impact if you look at the actual page.

When they mentioned how Q and Shin were supposed to be together, I inmediately started wondering If we´ll see at some point a joint cut like when they did Revival of Evangelion to make the film as it was originally intended

At the end of the liv watch of Q, everyone urged the audience to watch next the original series on Netflix, It has just been announced Its gonna air on tv, so they absolutely are trying to make people up to speed.
