Amazon Auto Canceling Eva 3.33 preorders.

So I got an e-mail from good ole amazon recently which said I had to go make my order active for Eva 3.33 otherwise they were going to automatically cancel the order.

I find this hilarious and a potential PR/financial problem for Funi. Imagine how many people simply ignore an e-mail like that and end up not receiving their copy. Not to mention it just makes your company look horrible when it takes you so long to release the DVD that Amazon starts auto canceling orders.

Note: Yes I understand they are doing extra work to edit the dub, I just find it sadly hilarious.

As much as I like Funi and kind of understand the pressure they are under from Khara and Co. to come out with a quality product, it would really, really be nice if they could just get their head back in the game and release something. Anything. Not even the DVD at this point, but a release date or maybe just an approximate release date specifying which financial quarter it will land in. Even if the release date is way off in the middle of next year or something, it would at least give us a set time to look forward to so we wouldn’t be stuck in this limbo.

All that being said, I have the Japanese Blu-ray release. And whereas I probably will buy the English release DVD and Blu-ray at some point, I’m not suffering from a lack of Eva Q in my collection at the moment.

Yeah, I just saw that Evangelion 3.33 was removed (currently unavailable) from Amazon. Now this can be taken as a bad thing or possibly it just has been so long that even Amazon is tired of waiting.

So I guess the question is did Amazon take action on their own or did Funimation give them the okay to temporarily remove it from the site (possibly due to a longer delay)?

Us eva fans think we have it bad, but hellsing ultimate took about five years to get released and dubbed by funimation. So hopefully will get Eva 3.33 released before 3.0+1.0 gets released in Japan. You know how hard it will be to avoid spoilers then.

Did this automatically happen to everyone with a preorder? And did you get your money back?

Meanwhile Germany got their blu-rays over a year ago...
Well we have proper dubbing unlike the USA anyway.

They don't charge your credit card until the item ships.

I dropped the Rebuilds with the first one, so you can rest assured that you're not the only one who hasn't seen the third one.

That can be rectified with various online sites, but if you're like Tines, you haven't seen it because you don't want to. If that's not the case and you just haven't been able to find the content, send me a PM or something. I'll point you in the right direction.

Oh I don't believe this was on here, but about a month ago Funimation did a live-stream that shed light on the reason why it is taking so long for 3.33 to release in English. Basically it is all Khara driven, and the way they describe it, I don't think Funi is the problem.

This was released Sep. 18, 2014.

The 3.33 answer is at the start of their Q&A, which is a little before the middle.

If Anno and company are micromanaging the release, I wonder how that effects the "dubs are a bastardization!" hardliners' view of the re-translation. If a work's original creators have a significant role in the creation of a dub, it would move, I think, away from the realm of interpretation and becomes more like an extension of 3.33. Less easy for purists to ignore, in other words. We rarely encounter this in anime, so it's an interesting situation.

From the sound of it, they seemed like they were implying they would have a release date within a month, well that live stream came out Sep 18 and now it's Oct 29...

Hmm this must mean we have gone onto nano-managing the dub of 3.33.

It's a nice evidence against the "Anno only cares about money!" meme, at least. If that were true, he could have let Funi release whatever last February and raked in the cash already.

Somehow Anno nearly breaking down post Q and Anno making sure, the English Dub is perfect, thus driving right into Q again contradicts itself.

In some ways, you can see how this incident proves Anno has deep respect for the English speaking fanbase of Evangelion and wants to ensure we get to experience the most accurate translation of the movie.

That being said, it's still terrible for Funi on a financial and reputation standpoint.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I at least like having the option of an English dub available. Especially if you want to watch it with other people, as subs demand a larger degree of attention from the audience then dubs.

Since I'm not a dub viewer, I'm not very affected by this problem. However, it does seem nice that Anno really wants to make sure that the dub captures what he really means to say. Which, as we've covered before, is certainly important; Q is ambiguous enough that garbled lines would make it nigh impossible to understand.

I dont watch the eva dub either but this is the only way im getting high quality eva legally without an absurd price.
