More Eva? (Recent news: "Rebuild" Newtype article)

Has anyone besides me seen the "Star Wars Holiday Special"? If not, I suggest getting a copy of it. You won't be able to find it on DVD and maybe on VHS at a scifi con, it was only aired once in the late 70s.

I hear a tool of the Dark Side it is. Induces brain hemorrhaging it does. Used to slay many Jedi, yes!

also, George Lucas famously attempted (and failed) to buy up all master copies of this special to ensure it was never broadcast again.

At least make fun of the man for what he really is responsible for.

Lucas himself greenlighted the project and also wrote the basic story outline. He had some involvement with the project in the beginning but had to leave due to Empire Strikes Back. I know he didn't have much to do with it after Welch rewrote the script and I know he hates the finished product, but it should never have seen the light of day and I only bring it up because everyone makes fun of him about it (jokingly, if I really wanted to make fun of him I'd talk about the prequels).

OT: I know this has been mentioned before, but Anno and company probably purposely keep things to themselves simply because the hype generates itself. We'll never know what's really going to happen until the movies come out.

Hmm...After stumbling upon the main page of the Evamonkey site which has that newest update, I feel better knowing that Eva is gonna supposedly be made in the way Anno-sensei always wanted to do it.
...As long as it all ends somewhat opmistically like EoTV and EoE (and more into Shinji and Asuka's fate/possibly giving them a chance at being happy together? Onegai? :(), then I'll be happy.

In all honestly, I'd rather not see a happy or optimistic ending, I'd like to see a more depressing ending. I'll use the EoTV and EoE as examples. EoTV to me, though I understood it, just didn't have the right feel. The EoE had a rather "empty" feeling at the end, and I captured the right feeling, though it could have been improved. To me it'd about the story, where the story will go. I'm not really the type that wants Shinji or Asuak to be "happy" at the end, because it kind of takes away from it all. Evangelion (when concluded with End of Evangelion) is the one thing that keeps getting going until the end, but never really finishes, and it stands out from everything else I've ever watched. I'm really interested in what direction he's going to take Rebuild..

It sounds like you want the same ending all over again. Given the opportunity to have more Eva wouldn't you want something different? I mean, if you want the sad/empty feeling you can always watch the tv series and EoE as many times as you like. I think the ending to the new stuff will probably be similar to EoE, but with a fresh spin on it. After all, what would be the point of doing four new films just to touch up the animations and CGI and not do anything differently?

I'd like the new ending to be really 'new', but with the optimism of EoTV. Maybe if they mixed the two endings together, but with a different epilogue. For exemple, when Instrumentality starts, we'd see something along the lines of episode 25 and 26, all the way until Shinji rejects it and we see everybody congratulate him. But the movie doesn't end there, we'd get a brand new ending to finally give closure to Evangelion. In any case, I want to see Shinji get congratulated by his friends and family somewhere in the movie, with Cruel Angel's Thesis played on the piano in the background. Definitely.
