Well I don't know about an American release but one of Asuka Langley Shikinami's facebook page's admins who is currently at Tokyo right now says the Japanese release is 12/26/12.

I'll believe it when Khara confirms it. Not before.

If anything it's probably a mistake and it's actually 12/26/13, in which case shitballs for making us wait that long.

You have a point but the guy did tell me that he is currently in Tokyo and said that he can't watch the movie in theaters but his mom would buy the blu ray release for him on the date I've given you guys.

Just using common sense here, no offense meant but here are the facts:

1.0 Theatrical release was in Sept. 2007
1.0 DVD release was in April. 2008

2.0 Theatrical release was in June 2009
2.0 DVD release was in May of 2010

Just going by these figures each rebuild release has taken 7-11 months to get a Japanese DVD release. Unless Anno & Co. plan on changing the game, the earliest we can expect a release would be in the summer.

Don't forget, 4.0's 2013 release date was taken off Khara's website, so they're probably no longer pushing to have materials out ASAP for a quick release date anymore.

3.0 is still playing in Japanese theaters. It's not going to be out on BD for a while, and, when it's announced, the news feeds will explode.

Not only will the feeds explode, but anything even slightly related to Evangelion is going to be completely inundated with spoilers. It will be hard for anybody to avoid spoilers at that point. It would be like trying to hide from a Harry Potter fan the fact that Dumbledore dies in book 6.

Regardless, when it comes out on disc, that movie is going to be ripped and illegally posted with subtitles faster than you can say "Evangelion".

I can't wait for UTW's subs. They were pretty quick with their subs for the first seven minutes, and they had the best video quality out of any of the versions I've seen. I also have their subs for 1.11 and 2.22.
