I'm not saying that I can't understand why she'd become like this, she lived in a painful wasteland for years and only knew him for months, for so long, he was just a memory and memories can be warped by dark times.

She's still trying her best to save the world.

I was merely saying that the contrast is harsh on the viewer (and Shinji, of course)

It's utterly hilarious to me that this incarnation of Kaworu dies via an exploding head, while his NGE counterpart had his body crushed with his head popping off essentially intact.

Shouldn't you be saying that to Eva-01, Gendo?

Ah, I just wish there was more on Gendo, apparently, he provides exposition to Shinji and recruits him, which may be interesting ... or just Gendo being in business mode all the time.

My first thought when I heard "giant Rei head" was "contract with Lillith", but they might have forgotten that bit already...

Both. He didn't know or Care he was going to cause third impact. He's not entirely to blame for what happened, but he isn't guilt free. Even if what he did was caused by temporary insanity (which it was) he still did it. Not that I support Misato's treatment by any means.
