I don't want to see Shikinami's screentime stolen by Mari either. But if it happens... At least give more background info about her instead of only battles...

Some people thought she looked like your stereotypic knife-wielding yandere there.

Rei herself is anything BUT a yandere, tough, you never see her express any jealousy despite the enormous amount of pretty chicks around Shinji (except in the manga but that one gets quite a lot wrong) and she's still ready to blow herself up for him after the damn bastard left her without talking to her, she just respects his choice and doesn't even try to convince him otherwise.


(Teh unconditional luv... Had Shinji not redeemed himself by saving her, I might just have ruined a perfectly fine computer screen to punch him and tell him he doesn't deserve a chick like that, and I normally like him.)

So, I may be using yandere wrong here, but it seems to me that Rei has been yandere because she has been actively and openly seeking to forge bonds with Shinji. She's been showing a great deal more empathy than she did in the original series, and, while she hasn't been psychotically yandere, she has been jealous of Asuka and Shinji (the whole cooking fiasco, which lead to the "yandere" scene, which was hilarious).

I miss the solo, cold and aloof Rei. A slice of this Rei's life was poems, scientific literature and knife fights in the back alley with the Yakuza.

The only moment 2.0 Rei stuck me as yandere was this shot. (Hell, when watching the film, one of my friends at first thought Rei was going to murder somebody!)



Everything else was her being selfless towards the other characters (which is pretty Rei-like in that sense, just a different context of selflessness) OR Rei beginning to understand other people more (maybe it will be a lead-in to her NGE/EoE symbolism of "the hope that people will understand each other one day"? Who knows).

She isn't doing anything wrong, and clingy is a derogatory term that i wouldn't use to describe her. She's more human in rebuild, and I don't like it! (although i wouldn't mind her clinging onto me if ya know what I mean)
