Is Mari supposed to be the same age as Rei and Asuka? I wouldve pegged her as a couple of years older considering shes more developed and arguably curvier.

I looked exactly like Mari when I was 14/15, except shorter. My breats were even larger, but that might be attributed to the fact that I'm a little pudgy.
She's perfectly inside the spectrum of what's possible.

And Asuka shouldn't be used to prove an overall skinnier character desighn, since she is pretty much the skinniest character in the frachise (She has Model-like proportions, not only in a positive way. It DOES fit her character, as a person who a)likes to act 'superior' an b) secretly defines her self worth over the worth she has to others, she would be the type to follow less than healthy beauty ideals. She even takes it one steop further when she tries to starve herself in ep 24)- If you look at Rei's hips in Rebuild, you can see that they are perfectly curved.

I haven't really paid any attention to Misato, but Asuka's boobs are simply more consistent. (Which is not a bad thing - remember the bikini scene in magmadiver where they kept changing from C to their Rebuild size dependen on whether they were in the camera's focus or not?)
In Rebuild, they're exactly the size they were when Shinji uncovered them in EoE.

The theory would fit, the hotter Asuka is intended to be in the scene, the larger the boobs. We can only assume that Asuka's body temperature increases when she gets more attractive in certain scenes, leading to massive amount of heat escaping into her breast.

May be in this scene her arm is in fact pushing her boobs closer together (against the floor) to make them look bigger.
