Good lord, why? Rest in piece, all you wonderful people. I had no idea Lee had reached such an advanced age. That was quite a life, and few can claim to have lived better.

I also had the sad duty of caring for a dying bird in its final moments. This entire day has been death.

OH. MY. LORD. NO. NO! You're trolling me right? You're telling the truth.

Dracula, Saruman, Dooku, all great memorable and larger than life. . . just like the man himself.

Did you know he worked for the British secret service before becoming an actor?

God rest his soul . . . he was one genuinely of the greats.

The Lord of the Rings  SPOILER: Show
He mentioned once that the sound he made when Saruman is stabbed in Lord of the Rings was based on sounds he heard during his service. He probably witnessed someone being stabbed in the same way, which is fascinating, depressing, horrifying, and impressive at the same time.

This. He worked in the Special Operations Executive. For reference, this is one of the units Delta Force used as a model (along with the SAS).

It's becoming more and more likely that James Horner was the sole pilot of the plane crash in the news right now.

Not going to lie, this death has not been easy for me.

If this is true, fuck, man. RIP to who I think was second only to John Williams as far as American film composers go.

Some of my favorite tracks of his:

Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

And so we arrive at demagogy. - Hideaki Anno, 1996

Confirmed dead, sadly, at 61 years old, James Horner was my all-time favorite cinematic composer before Hans Zimmer came into his own in recent years with TDK trilogy and especially Interstellar. Still, there are so many scores Horner wrote that are among my all-time, all-genre favorites:

- Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan ;

- the sadly forgotten Brainstorm ;

- Aliens ;

- Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (which was my all-time favorite score before Interstellar) ;

- The Rocketeer (another big favorite) ;

- The Man Without a Face ;

- Apollo 13 ;

- Jumanji ;

- Ransom ; and,

- Titanic (I will be the first to admit the Celine Dion song from that is perhaps the most over-played song in Western pop music history, but I would also be the first to admit that score still made me bawl like a baby for its beauty).

I thank him for all the memories, and that he inadvertently introduced me to the soundtrack genre, which led to me collecting and listening to them, so much in my head I can even play every track he made.

He will be definitely missed, will be remembered everytime I listen.

Flying must really be something to some; I have to be heavily sedated with drugs or alcohol every time I get on a plane and it's 'cause of stuff like this. Didn't Harrison Ford nearly crash his plane too just recently.

Also, does anyone else notice that Hal is posting again? :bigeyes:
