ITT we discuss a key role in any form of fiction: An antagonist. Most stories have one if not several and as we know, they're generally a driving force behind plot progression.
Therefore this is a thread to discuss all sorts of bad guys in any form of fiction, books, movies, plays, TV shows, ANIMU ANIMU ANIMU LOL, vidya gaims, etc.
Let's begin with the typical "name some of your favorite antagonists"
After replaying one of my old N64 games, I have to say Majora from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is quite awesome despite having little dialogue and being introduced as an actual villain (as opposed to just an inanimate object) near the end of the game. The thing is fucking batshit insane and seems to be incoherently evil and huh, fucked up, I was WTFing through the whole ending including the trippy final battle, what the shit were the game developers smoking?

Favorite antagonist? Durandal, from Bungie's Marathon trilogy.
At the outset of the story, he's just an AI who handles automated functions aboard a huge colony spaceship. Just before the inevitable alien attack, he goes insane; the protagonist, a forerunner of Halo's Master Chief, is repeatedly kidnapped and forced to either play mind games or run errands for him when said protagonist is supposed to be fighting off the invaders. Eventually the AI giving mission instructions goes offline, leaving Durandal in control until the last couple of levels. At the end of the game, he steals the enemy aliens' starship and goes where no meta-stable personality construct has gone before, taking the protagonist with him for laughs.
In the sequel, Durandal goes from menacing opponent turned ally of convenience to smug benevolent dictator. He sends the protagonist to the surface of a dead planet in the galactic core to free the remains of an enslaved civilization, then kicks alien ass in orbit.
The character had a lot of personality, made possible because the games ran on DOOM-generation engines and used text to do what is now done with cutscenes. Durandal was extremely sarcastic and given to rewarding the protagonist with long philosophical monologues on subjects like evolution, the vicious struggle for survival experienced by all life, freedom, slavery and the inevitable collapse of the universe.
He was also fond of threatening to teleport the player out into space, though he never made good on that threat and even saved the protagonist after his nemesis Tycho actually did.
Some of the loopy computer's lines are still popular jokes in the Bungie community today, over ten years after the third game in the series was released... 'Cause I got a shotgun and you ain't got one, after all.

SHODAN, from System Shock. Thoughout the whole game, she would harass the player as her face appeared on monitors. Since she's an AI, she could not directly harm the player, but she could meddle with everything that was electronic making the player's journey an unsafe one. Not only that, but she has one of the best quote evar! See: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/a3/SHODAN.ogg
In my case, I refuse to go easy on the ignorant, regardless of degree. Hitler was ignorant. Joshua C. Whatshisface is ignorant. To me, they're in the same category of ignorant and stupid people who should have been left in some isolated corner of the world where they couldn't bother anyone. --The Eva Monkey

I have no clue what that means, but speaking of Sarah Connor, i've gotta go with her nemesis from Terminator 2, the T-1000.
He's the ultimate killing machine because HE IS A MACHINE! The dude gets shot in the face, blown up in his truck, frozen and then shatttered into a million pieces and still comes back. I like Terminators in general, but he's my favorite. Another plus is that he dosen't have a stupid British accent like a lot of villians nowadays.

From "The Terminator". Usage on /b/ seems to be completely random. /b/tards have created the myth that some obscure word or phrase is wordfiltered into the phrase, but it was just made up to confuse newbies. Usually injected in the middle of a lowercase word, e.g. "I am not a furWHERE IS SARAH CONNOR".

'nuff said.
Okay little more said: I like it when an antagonist has a reason to be antagonizing people. It may even be, in his mind, a good reason. Add to that repenting villains or fallen heroes (careful to avoid PLAGERISMTM and stereotyping) and of course insane villains. They're interesting by default.
I don’t like 'I'm evil cos I'm evil now get out of my way before I stab you. I'll stab you anyway!' villains

HAL 9000 is incredible, as a villain. In the situation he was placed in, he was fear itself.
Seeing as everyone's choosing villains from video games, my favorite video game villains are Kefka and Albedo.

He was warrior and mystic, ogre and saint, the fox and the innocent, chivalrous, ruthless, less than a god, more than a man. There is no measuring Muad'Dib's motives by ordinary standards. In the moment of his triumph, he saw the death prepared for him, yet he accepted the treachery. Can you say he did this out of a sense of justice? Whose justice, then? Remember, we speak now of the Muad'Dib who ordered battle drums made from his enemies' skins, the Muad'Dib who denied the conventions of his ducal past with a wave of the hand, saying merely: "I am the Kwisatz Haderach. That is reason enough."

You really need to pay attention to Xenosaga's plot to get the most out of it.

Michizane from Otogi. Very menacing and beliveable character. Also a sympathic one, since even though he pretty much destroyed the world he's still just trying to fix it.
Kain in Legacy of Kain, if he counts as one since he was pretty much the main villian in the Soul Reaver games.
And Durandal, as BobBQ said.
If the doors around here aren't working, it's because I'm laughing too damn hard.
