Pen^2 is described as a hot springs penguin, but that's likely a series in-joke. There are many types of warm water penguins (they actually outnumber cold-water penguins), and one of them actually looks exactly like pen^2, aside from the biomech enchancements:

My new theme. I did the firefox colourscheme and the ion3 theme myself, though I grabbed the firefox skin from elsewhere (midnightfox I think?). I'll make a custom firefox theme sometime. It's much nicer to look at than a bright white screen or something with blue on black when I'm just waking up and my eyes haven't been exposed to anything brighter than Das Blinkenlights for 12 hours.

That looks a lot like a Liberator bomber in the background. What an odd thing to be there. It seems to be twin-tailed, and the engine nascelles are too round for it to be a lancaster.
