Disney finally filed the damn paperwork with the state and I finally have my D License from the state of Florida after working for a year! Unfortunately due to changes to TTC and Pandora part opening up within next few months, there will be lots of mandatory 6th and 7th days... Let's hope I can get a different post than bag check during bids!
On an un-related note... I decided to watch Gundam from the begining. I've only watched G Gundam before but I'll just be sticking to the Universal Century. I've only seen random bits back in early days of Toonami.

Put $10 into a VLT last night while out having some drinks and shooting pool with buds. Ended up winning $800, so all drinks were on me. Still managed to walk away with a cool $650.

Re: Everything is Rockin'! [RML Thread 4]
With 2 full weeks under my belt now, I can safely say: I love my job.
For those of you who don't know, I recently started a 9-month contract gig at an undisclosed AAA video game studio, as a programmer. I knew I would like it there, but I didn't know I would love it this much; I go to work every day excited to be there, the hours flying by and yet packed with things to tell my family and friends about later. I'm no longer under any obligation to hide my relationship with the company, but I feel like continuing to do so as an extra layer of protection to further anonymize anything I might describe about my time here -- we operate under a pretty serious NDA.
I feel so cool working here. I've already made changes to the code base that will make it into the studio's next release, and although none of my code was technically supposed to make it into the current upcoming release, I've received at least one automated email that seemed to be telling me that some of my changes (albeit extremely small) got pulled into the release code.
I've seen the other side of the corporate coin as well, and even that isn't so bad. I've been assigned my first serious, substantial task (level up!), and I ran into a roadblock as a result of a policy (which may be informal) which restricts my access to other departments -- including the one whose workflow my task is intended to improve. The atmosphere here is so relaxed and friendly that I'll probably get the feedback I desire by talking it out with someone from that department over lunch.
My position is temporary, but I'm fast making connections and already thinking about what will come next after my contract is up. I was assured just today at a local meetup that I attend regularly that once you have experience, your employability within the industry goes up exponentially. I'm not taking it for granted whatsoever, but I'm encouraged.

Re: Everything is Rockin'! [RML Thread 4]
Glad to hear it's all working out for you Monk!
It's such a thrill to work on something and see your changes make it into a game isn't it? A lot of the stuff I do here isn't exactly altering the game on a huge level but I do a few smaller things and knowing that I've helped out is really satisfying.
Really hope it continues to work out for you and hopefully they'll either renew your contract or maybe make it permanent. I'm not sure how it works at your company seeing as I don't know who it is but for me I started out in QA and had my contract renewed a couple of times before being moved itno a different department and then being given a permanent contract.
Best of luck to you, I hope to play whatever it is you're working on

Re: Everything is Rockin'! [RML Thread 4]
Did the craziest thing yesterday: I wanted to try out this supposed "super-hot" Japanese-style umami fried chicken, and ordered one for lunch. By my standards this is the most expensive lunch I ever ordered, at around US$8, several times more than the daily fare I usually order at McD.
Sank a bite into what billed to be the "hottest", and turned out to be far tolerable. Pretty good grub. Everyone else around me thought I was crazy to take this "super-hot" option, as I overheard that they ordered the mildly "spicy" option.
The rest of the day was watching GOTG2, followed by some bargain-hunting.

Re: Everything is Rockin'! [RML Thread 4]
Finally got to see all of my hard work come to fruition this week when we went live with playpass at my home store, CEC #333 and our sister store, CEC #660 on Tuesday and Wednesday nights respectively. It was a long and at many times, frustrating experience facilitating all pre-install work at my home store and providing assistance to our sister store but in the end after pulling two all nighters, its done and working well.
There is some pride to be had when one see's a month and a half worth of work finally come together.
I also got promoted yesterday. I will finally be recognized as a manager in official capacity. Before I was just an assistant tech without the manager approvals but after HR gets done with the paperwork, I shall be officially an Assistant Technical Manager with all the benefits the title nets along with a decent raise to boot. It's been a lot of hard work to get to this point and I am very happy with how I have progressed from basically a janitor to cook to rookie assistant technician, to now a full on asst tech manager in less than three years.
Now all I need is my own store to manage technical ops in and drop the assistant part of the title. Then I can work on one day becoming a district level tech and beyond.

I've just recieve a call and it seems like I'll have a have a small role in an upcoming Hollywood movie with some shots in Rome. I'll be in the background as a paparazzi but it's still cool to see how a movie is made (plus it's good money that I'll use for my trip in Japan).

Re: Everything is Rockin'! [RML Thread 4]
After sulking through more than half a year of depression, things have finally seemed to come around. I got a job interview at a place I'd really like to work at, and judging by the application for the advertisement and the brief phone call I had with the owner it seems like they're interested in me, so it will be nice to have an income again. I also got my grades back, and I actually did very well this school semester, unlike the previous one where I was cutting way to close to where I might lose part of my scholarship. Plans on moving out are in order, so that's also exciting.
I also got the opportunity to build a new computer, which is something I greatly enjoy and has become a bit of a necessity since my old one is on its last legs and can't play too many games anymore. I also got Windows 8.1 (I'm upgrading it to 10 once it's installed to the new computer) through my university for free, which is $90 I don't have to deal with anymore.
I'm still not entirely sure why I'm telling all you people, but it feels good to get something off my chest. I'm actually the most excited I've been in a long, long time.

Re: Everything is Rockin'! [RML Thread 4]
So after a little over two years, I'll be starting back college again in the fall term. Only one class at a time though since that's all that I can balance as far as work load for both my job and school, I like having a lot of free time still. I'm really excited about getting out of the house now and the campus for the state college is the biggest of all it's branches I'll be visiting. I want to meet new people and make new friends but I'm terrified of talking to strangers out of the blue (I wouldn't mind if a stranger walked up to me while I'm sitting in the lounge and started a conversation with me but that doesn't necessarily mean others are the same), does anyone have any advice on the best way to interact with new people both before and after my only class?
Building my computer was one of the best seven hours of my life. I'm so very proud of myself that I can't help but just stare in it at least once a day (had it since February of last year). The PSU is starting to make a weird chirping noise and I can't find any solutions for it online, but I already have a spare of the same type so all I need to do is turn it off and switch out the blocks when I have a day off.

Yesterday and today (and hopefully in the coming days too) I worked with Ridley Scott on "All the Money in the World". Actually we "worked" directly just for one cut but it was really amazing to be directed by him.
In my contract it's also stated that I couldn't snap photos on the set but how cares

I'm either on the lowest end on the pyramid of lights technicians or an extra. Usually big Hollywood productions bring their own technical staff so there's no space for me as a technician and I play as an extra just to be on set with the actors. In this case I was a special extra as a paparazzi and he wanted to explain directly to us what he wanted in a particular cut.

Finished my first mini-pupillage work experience placement. I will admit that when I first went in I was very unsure about whether I actually wanted to become a barrister, but seeing the profession behind the curtain has really re-invigorated my interest in the legal profession beyond 'I will do this because my parents told me to'. I think this is actually the career I want to go into now, and I want to give my best shot at it.

I finished making my class schedule for the Fall. Finally taking enough time for myself to enroll full-time in the music program, and my schedule is pretty flexible for work, especially since I've started working at a coffee shop and can work early morning shifts (before the rest of the world is awake). I've been skirting the line of music student for so long that I'm finally just going to jump into it fully. I'm pretty excited.

Re: Everything is Rockin'! [RML Thread 4]
We have a bunch of cats, and one of them ran off about a week or two ago. He's a black and white cat named Olaf (from a little of kittens I wanted to name after characters played by Jim Carrey, so he got named after Count Olaf from the good adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events), and he was quite a skittish cat. He'd be pretty cool with you going up to him to give him a cuddle, but he never wanted to come inside, or he'd immediately want to leave if he did. Because we've got 5-6 other cats who love to be inside or are eager for affection, Olaf became something of an unfavourite, and presumably ran off for that reason.
However, he came back this morning, and has been hanging around the place since. He's very happy at the moment, probably because everyone's just cuddling him and giving him loads of affection. I don't know if he'll be any less skittish than usual (cats sometimes change when they've been gone for a while), but I hope he sticks around for a little while longer, if nothing else. He's a sweet cat, and I'm so glad that he came back.

Re: Everything is Rockin'! [RML Thread 4]
I finally upgraded my GPU (along with my PSU, from a 500-watt to an 850-watt, which was required for the card to actually run) to a GeForce GTX 980Ti, still somehow one of the best cards money can buy. Also, I'm finally having social interaction with my coworkers (outside of work, of course), which is actually a bigger deal than it seems, since for the longest time, I only interacted with my friend circle, almost the entirety of whom (with the exception of Lyndsey) have either left the state or moved too far away to easily visit.
My employer is remodeling the store I work at, and as such, they need a whole bunch of help with everything, so everyone in my department is receiving full-time hours (I am technically part-time), and some managers are authorizing overtime for employees who want to stay late and help, so I should be able to put aside a considerable amount of money for savings (things savings could pay for: a molar extraction, a car, a pet deposit at my apartment, a future visit to Nebraska, research and development of a handheld, electromagnetically propelled projectile weapon - i.e., a infantry-rifle- or handgun-sized railgun, etc).
