Yeah, those frigging suck.

If you're looking for something to get the cardio back up without running, I would suggest jump roping in a heated room. Did that a lot in muay thai, and once you get your rhythm/technique down, there's no impact at all on your ankles (and your starting out with much less stress than if you were running. Personally, I hate running but...APFT. Two miles.).

Which reminds me, I have six miles I need to go do.

Damn it.

EDIT: Yeah, so I finish my run, and I have to stop near my apartment because there's a rock in my shoe throwing my step off. Only it's not a rock, it's the plastic head of an inch-long industrial tack.

:|

I have no clue how that didn't go all the way through the sole of my shoe.

Ouch, those hurt. The question is, how in the bloody hell do they happen?

Doesn't there have to be a sebaceous gland? I wasn't aware the inside of the nose can sweat.

Since my computer installed last week's Windows updates (its running Win 8.1) it's taken to hanging at intervals ranging from a few hours to a couple of days. Symptoms look more like hardware (I find it with a blank screen, the disk light on but no activity, pressing the power button turns it off with no delay, nothing in the event log), but the coincidence is too close to ignore (first happened within hours) - also, this is server-class hardware, not cheap junk. I may have to try rolling back the updates to diagnose it (never actually done that before). My 8.1 at work isn't suffering, but of course it has different drivers and everything.

Looks like you'll have to go back to the checkpoint/restore point where you have an ok setup before installing the updates -- not all updates will actually work properly as described (I've experienced this back when trying to autoupdate Windows XP).

So I decided to take an extra couple of days in the run-up to the long Easter weekend; and after having done chores and a bit in the garden, it was being such a nice day that I picked myself up some picnic bits from the village shop and set off for the first long bike rioe of the year.

It wasn't warm enough for shorts, but despite the strong breeze, proved to be warm enough to not need sleeves. So I set off and did about 40 miles, with a beer break in the middle -- about 4 hours in the saddle and around 2400 kcal expended. So far, so good.

Now, this was by no means the first time this year that it's been warm enough to go dressed like that, what I didn't consider was that this was the first time for more than an hour, and the first in bright sunshine, in the middle of the day.

Consequently, I am now nursing mild radiation burns on some exposed areas.

On the plus side, all that UV radiation might give you superpowers.

That's how UV radiation works, right?

If you count getting shiny and having your skin stay white when somebody pokes it as a superpower, then yes indeedy it is. Now go stand out in the sun with your MRE meatloaf.

Dude, meatloaf is like the kryptonite of MREs (actually, in hindsight, I think it was Pork sausage with gravy....which as might well be meatloaf).

Cheese Tortellini, though...that's where it's at!

Just got home from work and found a burr in my back tire...and I've got to bike there for the rest of the week, since they haven't put my friend and I on similar schedules yet.

Grandpa told me Grandma was -this- close to losing half of her eyesight (retina) a few days ago. A doctor told her that had she come 10 hours later than she did, she would of lost half of her eyesight forever.

I don't know what I'm going to do if one of them die on me in the next few years.

Got back a history essay that I slaved over, with an abysmal grade. I need to pass this class. Ugh.

The plans my partner and I had for the Easter long weekend have fallen through. Dalrymple Gap is still flooded after Cyclone Ita so we can't make it down south. There was a track I was really looking forward to hiking too; through the amazing Hinchinbrook Range.

I want to study, but I have no idea how anymore. I'm OK for History and English because I just have to do loads of practice essays, but for Biology I have to memorise what I now realise is a fairly large course, so I should probably make some notes but they always get lost and never really help me in the actual exam. I can't stand the sound of my own voice so making audio logs is a no-go either. And Maths is normally a shoot-or-miss thing for me. Like I might get Es for two exams and then suddenly get an A. Each exam is about the topic as a whole so it's not like I'm better at some topics than others. It seems that I usually make loads of tiny careless mistakes which stack into a huge fail. And there seems to be a huge disconnect between the Statistics we get taught in class and the actual exam; I breeze through the textbook questions but then hit me with an exam and I'm dead.

As if bad grades weren't enough, I've come down with something resembling the flu. I was supposed to go to an all-night Moby Dick reading, and I have Wondercon tomorrow. Dammit.

Every morning when I'm trying to sleep in the puppy comes in and jumps on my bed and falls asleep. This a 60-70 pound boxer/German shepherd mix btw. Though if she hears a noise like the doorbell or sees something out the window she'll bark her head off.

I love you, Annie, but please shut up and let me sleep.

Well, that's that. Finally took all of my data off of the old computer and returned it to BNL. Now it's time to transfer the last bits of stuff to my new computer and get settled in. ...And be paranoid about the possibility of having left anything I might want on that hard drive.

RIP Dell Latitude D830. 9/2011 - 4/2014

You will be missed.

EDIT: Well, that kinda sucks.

So I managed to move all of my personal files onto my new computer myself, but I needed the guys at BNL to move my User folder since it's used by the operating system. Because of some computer trouble on their end, we had to move the files in a bit of a roundabout way that involved using Ubuntu to make the final move onto my flash drive. Unfortunately, that last step overwrote the "Date Created" field on all my files, which is exactly what I was trying to retain. I feel as if this wouldn't have happened if we'd used Windows instead. It's not a huge deal, but I'm a bit bummed out about it since almost everything else went fine.
