Yeah. You read right. This is for everything that doesn't have anything to do with Eva.

Sad POV "Date" Videos like in "Video Girl Ai&

Hey gents,

Remember the old anime "Video Girl Ai" where the kid rented a video and a girl popped out? Apparently this is based off a real genre of videos in Japan where a cute girl talks at the screen to the viewer as if they are on a date. I think that sometimes this is done in the context of a porno but other times the entire point is the pretend date. The idea of such a video is so depressing to me that I want to buy one and use it to make videos for dark ambient music. The only problem is that I don't know the name of that genre, or whether it even has one. Can anyone help me?

I don't think I can help you with this, but I do think that there were several Otaku who bought the VHSes of the series so they could pretend-date Asuka and Rei.
In Heaven everything is fine.

I know there are smartphone AR apps that let you take your virtual girlfriend out with you, but I don't know what the Nihongo for them is. Perhaps /a/ or /jp/ might know.

You just described most of the visual novel genre, really.

Love Plus is the one that's location-based, I think, although I don't know if it does augmented reality.

Then there's the "Hinako" OVA series -- Training with Hinako, Sleeping with Hinako, Bathing with Hinako, etc. http://www.dannychoo.com/post/en/25351/Sleeping+with+Hinako.html

Some people just have poor genes and aren't going to attract women. Japanese, being the miraculous people that they are, developed an "aide" to help the frustrated male elements of their population. It's better than gangbangin'!

That is some astonishingly good AR technology if it works as well as in that demo. As in, so good that it looks better than the algorithms most robots are using to navigate physical spaces.

Which is why I think those demos are under ideal conditions, to say the least.

I did a lot of really intensive research and the closest I could find to a name is "Girlfriend Experience" or "POV". They seem to be related mostly to porn but I suspect it may not be unknown in gravure either. I think I might check on /a/ or /jp/ next as Herr Tines suggested

So apparently, these simulated date-things weren't invented by the Japanese.

Even though that's just a spoof, my grandma told me that there was a real show just like that in the fifties, except it was serious. Proud to be an American, knowing we started this... yeah...

Japanese just took it to the next level, as they often do. There are a lot of losers in America that can't get any either (many of whom go to Japan where they are treated like gods, BTW).

The true revolution will begin once haptic technology can be overlaid upon these augmentations, especially if they find a way of not making your hand visually cut right through them. Dating real people will drop 50% instantly on that day.

Japan doesn't seem to have needed that technological step change. But it would lead to a proper degree of male emancipation that some commentators suggest is much needed by contemporary society.

I was about to flip out as well until I realized that, if women suddenly had to compete with perfect artificial females who would "approach us with nothing but good intentions and fall in love with us for no reason a all" (to paraphrase glorious 'NHK'), then real women would actually have to start treating men decently just to keep up. Ah, the march of civilization!

So it's a one-way street then? :headscratch:

Do you agree with these commentators? I'm never too sure about you these days...

I feel like "Men's Rights" people (and whichever of their straw feminists happen to be real) could learn a few things from this.

That article always make me laugh. I especially love the bit where it says "Marriage was invented to stop 10% of all men from fucking every single woman, because the rest of them really are that fucking pathetic." Aside from nicely demonstrating how the article also degrades men, it really highlights its author's position with the ladies, or complete lack-thereof.

Damn, and I was just buying books yesterday. Anything that influenced your one-of-a-kind view of gender is essential reading.
"Now, from Nature we obtain abundant information about ourselves, and precious little about others. About the woman you clasp in your arms, can you say with certainty that she does not feign pleasure? About the woman you mistreat, are you quite sure that from abuse she does not derive some obscure and lascivious satisfaction? Let us confine ourselves to simple evidence: through thoughtfulness, gentleness, concern for the feelings of others we saddle our own pleasure with restrictions, and make this sacrifice to obtain a doubtful result." -The Divine Marquis

"I agree Hans, but we have talked about those anal fisting analogies." -Werner Herzog
