I was wondering if you guys are familiar with Akinator the Web Genius.
If you are not:
It's a funny thingy that guesses what person you are thinking about.
Now it is rather unique because it seems to know EVERYBODY!
(yep, that includes Evangelion characters)

Here it is.

Evangelion characters - check
Bomberman - check
Travis Touchdown - check
Himself - check
Nyancat - check
Space core - check (okay, thats pretty awesome)
Jason Bourne - check
Cleverbot - check (i give up)

Best question i have seen so far: Is your character linked with Aperture Laboratories?

It could think of Nothing (Nothing) after 21 questions. I thought of a character from Bakemonogatari.

It does seem to have a substantial database of anime character. It even asked a question "Does the character come from Kyoto Animation?"

EDIT: Just tried again and with the same character, got wrong answer after 20 questions. Then went on and got it right after another 7 questions.

EDIT: Tried more anime characters, so far checking the main character of

I think the expert system builds its database by user participation as when it guessed wrong it would ask "If not, click here in order to introduce your new character to me" and asked you to help define the new character in the system -- it may be later scrutinized by the admin to check its accuracy and then fed back to the system.

I did not provide more information when it guessed wrong :)

Think about it, with 20 questions, it can on theory already distinguish 2^20 = 1,048,576 different characters/persons.

Have not yet tried non-anime characters though.....

You don´t even have to provide information actively, he just learns whenever you let him guess that character.

This is as far as I went to inform it. Still a pretty good expert system as far as main anime characters are concerned -- particularly for the most updated titles.

edit: same for haa-roo-hee. I think I need to start to think of more obscure characters...

I did not even try MacrossF or OreImo after it got Infinite Stratos, ToLoveRu and Denpa. I am sure those would be covered already...

I am guessing it is particularly strong for main cast of anime characters or comic characters....

The Akinator has almost everything anime now.
Really.
Ranka and Haruhi are pretty popular, I can´t see why they should not be in there.

Interestingly, the damn thing got Sailor Ripley, but not the love of his life, Lula Pace Fortune. At least it knew William S. Burroughs. I can never remember anything obscure when I try to. That pisses me off.

Okay, it got Garcian Smith from Killer7. It was a close one. Forty questions in, and I knew he was going to get it at the last two. That was sort of cool.

I tried to have it guess The General from Saints Row 2, but I accidentally forgot he was bald and said he had black hair. So it guessed Mr. Sunshine, The General's right hand man. Damn this thing.

He guesses minor background characters, there is no beating him.

Unless you're a member of EGF you're going to think Sohryu and Shikinami are the same person, so that's kind of unfair.

The only times he's ever guessed wrong for me was when I'd answer questions wrongly by accident.
